1st Time to stop by Hawaii - Which island is best?
We are celebrating our 30th anniversary and want to step somewhere to relax plus do a few other sight seeing things. Not sure which island is most affordable and smaller quantity touristy.

I just go to Hawaii for my first time. I went to the big Island and stayed surrounded by Kona. It was elegant and not so touristy which I liked. We stayed the the King Kamehameha hotel and go to the Luau they have which be definitely a great experince! We be only near for 4 days.If you do go near Hapuna Beach Park is beautiful and within is this great restaurant we ate at near nearby. More home cooked style meals.
I also flew to Oahu and stayed within Waikiki at the marriott. It was attractive aswell but too much of a tourist attraction. I still liked it because I did carry to go see Pearl Harbor.
Im 24 and I thought the Big Island suited more of my ready side and enjoyed the dining and beach and Waikiki was more of my younger side and I be able to jump out at night and also do shopping!
I use to live in Hawaii (specifically O'ahu/Honolulu) for in the order of 3 years, it's crowded with tourist every light of day. If your looking to relax, less touristy & a few other verbs seeing things, then I would recommend the island of KAUAI. Get the book call Kauai Revealed, gives you worthy tips/info about the island, dining & the best places to progress sightseeing.

The Big Island of Hawaii have top rated resorts and the continuously erupting Kilauea Volcano (and no nightlife). However, it is difficult to return with around; you have to drive, the distances between sites is relatively far (and boring) and you could easily miss them. So, essentially, you're stuck at your resort. And also, not adjectives the resorts have beach (think lava fields). Please do your research or ask.
Maui also has nice resorts if you're at Ka'anapali, but thier sand fronts are rather small (I be there within December). Minimal nightlife. Kauai has the resorts, once again, and Waimea Canyon near Koke'e State Park at top and Kalalau Valley towards the bottom. Molokai and Lanai have resorts. ALL OF THE ISLANDS HAVE TOP RATED GOLFING and reflective sea diving for hire.
Consider O'ahu. You own a much wider range of accomodations from self service apartments, B&B's, small and immense resorts to budget hotels. You can get a hassle free break package from sites such as http://www.pleasantholidays.com or you can put together your own break using kayak.com and googling "things to do on O'ahu" You have the metropolitan city of Honolulu, the famed North Shore of O'ahu, Kailua Beach for a more relaxed and uncrowded sand experience, Makaha Beach for the North Shore experience w/o the crowds. You can have city-life if you're bored, or you can escape smoothly to the country if you want to relax. Except for the Volcanoes of Kilauea and Hale'akala, O'ahu has what the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai have and more. If this is you're first time to Hawaii, definately come to O'ahu.
Hawaii's main (and it seem, only) industry is tourism, thus, the only Islands that are smaller number touristy is Kahoolawe and Niihau. As far as affordability, O'ahu will give you more option. Try renting an aparment in Kailua or Makaha, Oahu. Another popular likelihood is a cabin on the slopes of Hale'akala, Maui or toward the coast Kihei, Maui. If you budge to the Big Island go to Kona (or Kailua-Kona). But be cautious, the Big Island has 2 airports: Hilo and Kona which is 1 hour drive apart. Be sure you fly into and out of Kona Airport.
i vote Maui. Ive lived on Maui, Oahu, and Kauai and Maui has more to give you. the sights are insane, and its less touristy than Oahu. Kauai is a suitable bet too but most people attain over the beauty and gain bored. however, for a first time trip here you cant fully understand Hawaii by visit one island. they are all so different, and present different things. i suggest to island hop. take the transport to different islands. but really, anywhere in Hawaii you cant turn wrong. have fun!
You know, i live contained by Hawaii, and I think the best islands to stop by for a first time visitor are Oahu, beside its world class hotels and Hawaii's largest mall, Ala Moana, Hawaii, Hilo because of practically adjectives the stuff that girl said about it more rapidly.
My vote would be Maui right over to Kanapalli Beach. I think you hold the best of both worlds there. Awesome events you can do, the great beach, and nightlife right down within Lahiana. I used to live in Oahu and I approaching it cause I'm city but its not smaller amount tourisy at all.
Hawaii ~ Hilo has a Tsunami Museum, the Kilauea Volcano and logically, Kona/Kailua. Black Sand Beach, Kona Coffee and the many pineapple field and sugar plantations all contribute to the awesome exquisiteness of this island. . . . .and don't miss Rainbow Falls in Hilo! I imagine it's probably more affordable than Maui and that tourist destination Honolulu. It's a beautiful island ~ I be born and raised at hand!!

Well Oahu is really nice for first time visitors. It really depends what time of year you want to call on Hawaii, Summer time tourists are everywhere.I think the best island to call in would be Maui, it's really beautiful here, there's not copious tourists, lots of nature and lots of events. For city existence go to Oahu. For a quieter more relaxing time, be in motion to Maui. For an even more relaxing time, go to the other islands, such as the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai or Lanai... Either instrument there's lots to do there, but Oahu would enjoy the most things to do...
