Is hollywood califonia especially hot and does it ever receive cold?

Yes it is really hot surrounded by the afternoon but at night some times it get chilly. Great question and Rock on!
Depends on the time of year. In the summer, the temperature can exceed 90 degree. In the winter it is usually in the 50's-60's on average but at times can acquire below 40 degrees and is habitually closer to the 70's. Anything below 40 degrees within So Cal in the winter is considered pretty cold.

Doesn't get excruciatingly hot (though it DOES carry fairly hot - but usually manageable), and doesn't return with cold at all... relatively chilly (50s and 60s), but definitely not cold.
Also, Hollywood is in Los Angeles, not San Francisco... You know, so if you're planning on going near you don't get confused and failure up hundreds of miles away. =D
