Answers:
it adjectives depends.. orlando is nice because of the theme parks and usually cheaper airfare.. daytona is nice because of the shore.. i would suggest flying into orlando and driving to daytona.. enjoy the coast and everything else daytona has to bestow.. in my feelings, its very relaxing when you stay at a hotel on the seaside.. and if you want to go to the matter parks you could drive to orlando for a day.. unless you want to move about to more than one theme park after you may just be better bad getting a hotel there cuz the subject parks are usually an all light of day event..
Daytona is a dump - the less time you spend here the better.
Why are going to Daytona? If it's for the Speedway, that's fine - and 1 day would be ample. But if you're looking for a beach, look into Cocoa Beach. It's closer to Orlando, nicer, have the Ron Jon Surf Shop (among a few other things), and is next to the Space Center- you can see the shuttle on it's catalyst from the pier.
Universal Studios is most fun. Daytona is freshly an hr away from Orlando. I am going to Daytona Saturday and Sunday. If you are heading down, Wild Adventures is in Valdosta, GA and is fun next to animals and all. Second afternoon free at like $40 a ticket. Lodging in attendance is cheap as well. I love Daytona Beach. How old-fashioned are your kids as well?
I strongly recommend the most days in Orlando. There is so much to see and do that not even three days is ample to see most of Orlando. Daytona Beach is not the nicest beach around, its more popular for NASCAR and Bike Week afterwards anything else. The drive is about 45-60 minutes from Orlando.
