Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Art is subjective. One requests to be exposed to many kind of art in command to make nouns judgments. But it is pretty unproblematic to tell at a partial view whether or not something appeals to you. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is inadequately executed or lacks appeal completely. It also depends on what you are looking for in a piece of art, a story or a design, or freedom of expression, or art for investment sake, etc.
"Contemporary" can mingy many things. I consider the worth in citation to art to be art or artists of a designated period, IE. Monet and Renoir be contemporaries. Their work was within the style of impressionism. But it was contemporary for the time.
If you are thinking of abstract art, that is to say another story. There are also many types of abstract art. (I resembling it if it has fitting design qualities and color.) If you are referring to draping the Brooklyn Bridge within fabric and calling it art, I phone that "Con-art." But everyone, on the other hand, is entitled to self-expression and sign it "art." Art is a term that covers the gamut of hard work that range from the truly creative to outright huckster cr*p. When a crucifix within a bottle of p*ss or a urinal hung on the wall is promoted as art then we enjoy all be taken. I disagree that all contemporary art sucks, but I can see the point i.e. being made.
People try too hard instead of freshly doing what they feel resembling.
