My husband is from Kauai. Most of his family still lives in attendance. It's a family orient island with nice swimming beach. You can get tickets to island hop really cheap if you live in that. They go shopping within Oahu, then savour the beauty of Kauai.

Depends on what you wanna do and what you wanna experiece contained by Hawaii. Oahu would def be the easiest. Most jobs, most housing, most public transportation. If you want a more Hawaii exp any go to Maui or Big Island. You would call for a car on those islands. On Oahu you could only just live down in Waikiki and help yourself to the bus everywhere.
Both job & housing will be much more plentiful on Oahu. The cost of living is also slightly less than on the neighbor islands.
