im not sure, but i was born within LA, and it rocks... i miss it so much... and why not go to hollywood or something or disneyland within anaheim... it shouls still be pretty warm nearby... try the beach... who care if there's celebs, cuz walking down the street see a celeb yourself...
Umm I dunno why the guy above is so upset, I have lived surrounded by SoCal my entire life and I call for it both LA AND Los Angeles.

You should go to a tv tape if you want to see celebrities. Check out http://1iota.com/home.aspx for the calendar and for tickets.
If you want information on concerts, dance to ticketmaster.com and look up Los Angeles. Most concerts are either at the Gibson Ampitheater, Staples Center, and Honda Center within Anaheim.

As for big events, the Grammys are coming up February 10. As for a list of celebs attending, most A-list celebrity will be in attendance. No record is put out for the public. If you want to see celebs, this is your best chance to see them. You can see a account of performers at www.grammy.com. The show is at Staples Center.

The Oscars will be presented February 24 at the Kodak Theater. Who will attend is still up within the air, due to the writer's strike. Once again, your best bet is to try to stake out a spot along the red mat. You might have to military camp out for a couple days to get a spot.

Most celebrity, especially the "A" listers, protect their privacy. They rarely jump out in public unless it is an event they are appearing. Occasionally one can be see, but not often.

If you do crop up to see one out in public, the proper etiquette is to sign out them alone. Don't scream, gush, ask for an autograph, or try to natter to them. Some are nice about it, but you could find yourself like lightning removed from the premesis.

Most often, they can be spotted dining out, shopping, or doing other mundane things. Many times, they are “dressed down”, wearing jeans, tees, sunglasses, and a helmet. If you want to try spotting one, try these spots:

Gelson’s Market
Pink’s Hot Dogs
Canter’s Deli
Spago (dress up for this one)

Here's my top ten list of things to see and do contained by LA:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors can’t be wrong. (Sometimes it seem all at once)

Universal Studios: A subject park that grew out of a studio tour. Check out eBay. You can find some discounted tickets there. And Universal City Walk is a fun place to hang up out in the evening after your daylight inside the park.

Hollywood: Hollywood Boulevard is ready for its close-up, appreciation to years of urban renewal and renovation. Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Mann's Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. I own also added the Hollywood & Highland complex to my top ten list… it has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I close to the El Capitan theater, because it has be restored to its former glory, unlike the Chinese, which was essentially gutted and turned into a multiplex.

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed near exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all come to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best.
Here you'll find Muscle Beach, street performer and tacky shops galore.
Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after menacing, when it gets for a while TOO interesting for my taste. And it's a short bike ride from:

Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great shoreline scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that have been within a lot of TV and movies. (The Sting and "Three's Company" come urgently to mind).
After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach.

Santa Monica Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica's shopping promenade is regularly the scene of movie star-sightings. Just a short walk from the Santa Monica Pier.

Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world's most illustrious streets, it began as a route between the stars' posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the the deep, passing through the "Sunset Strip" on its track. It makes for a fun drive. Along the means of access, you see a lot of different neighborhoods. Hollywood, West Hollywood, Bel Air, and Pacific Palisades. When you capture to the ocean, stop at Gladstone's for Fish.

Queen Mary: Once the largest ship afloat, she's be docked in Long Beach for longer than she sail, and her elegance never fail to impress. Free to visit. You can in truth stay on board, for a price.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A modern shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles high point, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, then rob the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner.
Farmer's Market is right next to CBS, so put your foot across the lot to see if they are taping "The Price is Right". You might even win in.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty's architecture is so stunning that it keeps me fascinated. No issue whether you like their art or architecture better (or perchance you'll just soak up the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can bring back free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It's totally interesting to see a show being tape. The most popular, by far, is the tonight show. Check the NBC web site for adjectives the details there.

Places to chomp through:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pink’s Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, of late north of Melrose. Might see a celebrity.
Tommy’s Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. Original location at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canter’s Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, might spot a notoriety.
Phillippe’s: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station, Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, it’s hot.

Places to Stay:
In Hollywood, I recommend the Renaisaance Hotel at Hollywood and Highland, or the Hollywood Roosevelt.
In Anaheim, I recommend the HoJo Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. If you want to splurge and brand this a most memorable trip, stay at Disney’s Grand Californian. You catch the full Disney experience. If you don't need to stay by the park, consequently stay at the Doubletree on Harbor, or even the one in Orange on Chapman.
In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and justifiably priced.

Places to Shop:
South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
Fashion Island, Newport Beach
Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
Citadel Outlets, Commerce
Beverly Center, Los Angeles
The Block at Orange, Orange
Ontario Mills, Ontario
