I want to move to Hawaii near my kids, can it be done?
I work in the healthcare industry as a software analyst for a principal hospital and clinic system in Wisconsin. Most of the hospitals surrounded by Hawai'i use this system and it is in hiigh constraint. I see from the hospital web sites I could move in that and start working tomorrow someowhere in the $30 inventory per hour. I have three boys, infantile teenagers. Can I move there beside no connections, only a position ready? How complicated could it be? Would Hawai'i be fun? Would I be able to spend weekends on the sand and bike riding to fun places with my kids. Or would I come to regret it because I would be working so much or living too far away from things. I purely want to know how I could make it work near my kids. I want to live in the tropics because I am sick of snow. I live contained by Wisconsin and for five months of the year, it is freezing with snow as far as the eye can see. I inevitability to get away.

Hawaii is unbelievably expensive.
a small 2 bedroom house could cost around $300,000-$400,000.
my parents sold our old house for almost $1 mil.
A single parent next to 3 boys might be difficult to pay for unless you own a high paying commission.

hawaii is one of the few places contained by the US where you can wear traditionsl clothing (mumu) minus looking completely lolo (crazy)

Hawaii is fun the beautiful beach surfing and if you dont have a house or a condo but you could stay at a hotel like the Hilton or tons more stuff.Since I live surrounded by Hawaii I say that you are a honest father because your moving your kids out of a place they can get sick.I afford you credit.You can go snorkling at Hanauma creek because theres no fishing there and theres a center over at hand about Marine energy of the ocean and the coral reef.And the Water park within Kopolei if you go near I say that you should ride hurracaine firth.30 dollars per person.You can run surfing or enjoy the elegant sea near your family. And I enunciate that condos cost less but Kalihi is dicey so I say dont live within Moanalua Is good my brother go there. Your a hardworker I can recount.
I love Hawaii when I look in but I am not sure I would want to live there. However, if this is your dream than budge for it. If you don't try it you will always be wondering "what if" I am 50 years feeble and have lived surrounded by Southern California all my time. Many people might read out how lucky I am to live here and yes it is a wonderful place to live but I so wish I have taken a leap and lived in other areas. But presently with an established business and my husband a moment ago getting a new charge we will probably be here forever. I would love to have expanded my horizons a bit. Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and yes probably maybe even Wisconsin. Go near your gut feeling...if it doesn't work out you can other move. Good luck
Go for it GIRL ! I won a trip in attendance 2 years ago ( 1 month after getting married ) and we went for our 1st anniversary. He thought he have a job creased up that didnt pan out ( he did not know til he get there but 7 months latter my husband went next to a dream, $4500, a backpack and a tent. Well he stayed in a hostel for a few months. We very soon rent a home on the North Shore in Pupukea and we own been apert for 8 1/2 months but his dreams come true. If this is what you want DO IT !! Without dreams what is the point. It takes easier said than done work and desire. I NOW believe that if you want it bad plenty ANYTHING is possible. If you do have a post lined up next make the move. I look at it as " At lowest possible I tried and chased the rainbow !! If it is meant to be the doors will sympathetic for you ( as they did me ) and you have nought to lose. Life is an adventure. hold a chance. You can other go put money on home RIGHT ?!?!?!

It make me just for a moment crazy how many family are sure - w/o knowing you - that you couldn't be happy here. Honestly, I don't know if you can be or not, but I know it is possible. I moved here > 30 years ago & hope never to own to go posterior to the mainland for more than a couple of weeks at a time. I had a living, but knew not a soul. I was single at the time, so it be easier, probably, than it will be for you with 3 sons.
OK, here is the downside. It WILL be more expensive than you are prepared for. Housing is expensive, whether you are renting or buying. You are probably looking at a couple thousand a month to rent & a single family connections home wil lput you back at lowest possible 600K - and it won't be a palace. Milk is ~$5/gallon. Gas is consistently the highest within the nation. Electricity is wicked expensive.
Will your kids adjust powerfully? Hopefully, but there is no guarantee. They will be moving into a vastly different environment where at hand is no one ethnic group i.e. a majority, and there is a abiding amount of local vs mainland haole tension. If they are assured going kids who will approach others with respect & not seriously of attitude, they will probably do OK. Since you probably won't be able to afford private institution for 3 kids, you will want to choose where you live base on school systems.
More doomed to failure news... commuting here is a authentic pain. Traffic stinks. Other things to consider - 4 round trip airplane tickets to bring a vacation or stop by the grandparents will be a whole lot of money. Some poeple do bring back "rock fever", but living on an island has never bothered me.
Now for the worthy news. The islands really are a wonderful place to live. Local folks hold really good heart & if you don't come across with the attitude that everything be so much better "back within the states", you should be accepted. The weather is never doomed to failure for very long. It never get very cold, and even when it is hot, it is zilch like the east coast within August. It is SO beautiful. Even though I enjoy been here for a long time, I never win tired of the views. The food is great. But more than any other article, I love the people here.

It is intensely hard for non-Hawaiians to find work nearby. I knew three associates, white people, who moved here and could not find work. If you had a work already lined up specifically the only approach to go. The rent and housing is more or less Southern California prices. Hawaii is fun but it gets ripened. You can drive around Oahu in 5 hours.
This is all going to be personal nouns, but I had an aunt and uncle who lived here for about a year and HATED it. Hawaii is a great place to call round, but they couldn't stand living there. Everything be SO expensive (e.g. they bought a small, dumpy house and it cost $600,000+) from real estate to food to clothing. Not merely that, but they didn't like the island discern. They are from Alaska originally where you could drive for hours and hours if you needed, but in Hawaii they feel trapped. The islands were basically too small, the traffic to go anywhere be horrendous, and they moved back as soon as they could. Just one example, I'm sure in that are people who love it in attendance.
I'm haole (caucasian) and my brother and I were born and raise on Oahu and still live here (I'm 31). I can't imagine living anywhere else.
Basically, if you want to gain along with folks, a short time ago be a nice person. Don't do the 'back home' or the 'in the States' routine. It irks. You're within a different place that has a different culture. At smallest make an attempt to cram it. People really will appreciate it. Just as if you were a guest within someone's home, you try to do things their way first.
Yeah, it's expensive here. Pretty much everything have to be shipped or flown in. Land's a premium so housing is expensive. Still, in that are deals to be found. Expect to settle up a lot and hope for better.
We own the same problems most key cities have - crime, homelessness, housing, etc. Generally near aren't race-relation problems. That doesn't mean nearby aren't folks here who don't have a chip on their shoulder. I'm feeling like to bet that there are a few crummy individuals where you live, too. Still, if you're of a mind to try something new, to revise new foods and cultures, it's a great place to live.
Let's see, practical stuff...TheBus is pretty cheap for transportation ($40 for a monthly bus pass by, $2 per trip without a pass). Most grocery stores enjoy loyalty cards that can save a few bucks. We also enjoy Sams, Costco, Walmart, KMart and soon will have Target. The internet is your friend - use it to do research until that time coming over. I live in Indiana, so I surface your pain of wanting a adjustment and being tired of winter. I own been saw this to my family, friends and employer for the finishing year. I plan on moving when I am done with institution and have my bachelor's scope.
As much as I like the beach/tropical vivacity, I will have to agree beside everyone else that you will not like it in attendance. I would think that Hawaii would be approaching Florida, nice place to visit, but you would not want to live in that.
My vote is for south (Tennessee, but not as far south as Florida - too touristy and expensive) or west (but not into California - too expensive also). The goal is a shorter winter!

It's a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live at hand. Too crowded, too expensive...and I think the cost of living would outweigh your stipend.
I moved from San Diego (lived there adjectives my life) to Utah 9 years ago...and it has be great. The economy is really fitting, here...(recession? what recession?) and the cost of living is fair. It does snow, but not that doomed to failure. Arizona and Nevada are also booming.
Hawaii is remarkably expensive. Also, it is difficult to get a motor. It's not much different than moving to a different state.
Where is the kid's mother? If she is still alive, you may run into custody issues. Hawaii is fun, but it has it's share of weather issues. You haven't see rain until you've see it in Hawaii! Have you ever even be to Hawaii?
It can be done. It's not as easy as you assume... However, your new employer should know how to hook you up with someone who can aid you sort out the basics such as finding you a rental, locating school, etc.
Can it be done? Dude, it's been done, by citizens with smaller number resources and more kids than you. I personally work beside a woman who moved here with her two daughters near less of a gross than yours. I personally work next to a girl from Wisconsin who only go back for weddings and funerals. Move to Kailua or Kaneohe or Hawaii Kai or Manoa where on earth there are profusely of white kids and your boys will adjust very exceedingly well, exceedingly very confidently and very severely quickly. (Me brown skin slant eye, oodles white skin round eye friends.) Just kidding. You can move anywhere anytime beside no connections. Hawaii is sooo laid back that it is assured to do it here. You can do everything you mentioned above. Just don't buy a Porsche or shop at Neiman Marcus all the time. Hawaii is expensive but not materialistic. Just do it. If you backfire, move back. If you don't try you'll just wonder what if?
