You've come to the right place. Obviousman is food-driven, so he know the food. (Sorry for speaking in the third party, I've just be diagnosed with BobDole-itis)
Why not lately go right up the mount to Universal City Walk? There are a plethora of restaurants up there. My favs are Gladstone's for Fish, Tony Roma's, Cafe TuTuTango, buca di Beppo (where you can in actual fact eat contained by the kitchen-fun!), and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.
On Ventura Blvd, try Carney's. They serve burgers and hot dogs, but how often do you win to eat surrounded by a railroad car?
