There is even a DJ that spins before and after the movie. Get nearby early because the place fill up. The movie this Saturday is Rebel Without a Cause. There is a suggested donation of $10.
Fill a cooler next to some drinks and snacks and head for Playa Del Rey. If you hold a bike, bring that too. Parking on the street is free and scenery is fantastic.

How around a drive (or a train ride) to Santa Barbara: Chill out at the beach and/or State Street
Same for San Diego: If you don't want to drive, cart the train to San Diego, grab a prompt bite at Anthony's Fishette, then any cruise to Old Town or take a bus to Balboa Park. Or filch the trolley to the border to do a little shopping.
