Will a local NYer please afford me some tourist counsel?
We're from Dallas and we'll be in NYC for the first time for a week contained by July. There is so much to see and do and we don't want to miss a thing. Can we get hold of tickets to Broadway shows now or do we hold to wait till we seize there? Do you deduce it would be a good opinion? What about tickets to other things?
Any warning you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I one-sidedly wouldnt go to a Bway show it would be boring and you would miss alot of whats goin on contained by the city ... but the Statue of Liberty the Empire State Building, Ground Zero (Which is under construction now) . if you worried of being robbed or anything stay surrounded by the Lower Manhattan or Midtown area where on earth its more populated ...if driving do not get angry if they cut you stale thats how we drive ... and one last item MOVE FAST .. the city is quick and does not enjoy time for slowpokes
New York is pretty amazing. I suggest when you arrive, you take a tour, (basically purely walk around Manhattan) to see what its really close to. Ferries to Ellis Island, where you can see the Statue of Liberty are also seriously of fun. In July, there are usually greatly of fun-summer related activites going on in Coney Island of Brooklyn. As to Broadway shows, you necessitate to book tickets in credit, like today because they return with filled up pretty speedily. When you arrive, you should stay in a hotel surrounded by Brooklyn, where its a short time cheaper than Manhattan. Trains, taxis, etc are available to rob you around, but I do suggest in renting a motor if you come so that it'll be a little cheaper because taxi around here can be very expensive. If you own your heart set on a particular Bdwy show buy the tickets very soon, if you are flexible about which show shift to the Tickets Booth on Bdwy and 44 st and buy discount tickets for whatever show is available. Take a look at the trellis sites for your favorite TV shows that are from NYC and see which ones are still shooting in July you might know how to get free tickets to be division of the audience. Take a light sweater to wear within a TV studio, they keep them cold to hang on to the audience awake.

I'm from NYS originally, but I found this website for you. It has hotels, attractions, etc. Have fun while you are nearby. It is a really large place.
I've gotta say-so I disagree with previous warning given to rent a car. Even though it would craft seeing the outer boroughs easier, if you mostly plan to stick to Manhattan, do without the coup¨¦. You'll just ruin up getting lost, getting frustrated, and getting way overcharged to park. Take the subway and cabs. Much easier.
As for Broadway shows, I agree--if you enjoy your heart set on a particular show, by adjectives means, a short time ago order the tickets online surrounded by advance. Otherwise, swing by TKTS and bring back a discount. Or if you really want the local experience, show up at the box office to a show and try to obtain rush tickets. For some shows (like Avenue Q.) you just enjoy to get nearby before twelve noon and put your name within. They do a lottery drawing and you can win up to 2 tickets per person. I've see a bunch of shows this way. I compensated only $25 to see The Drowsy Chaperone and sit within the first row! Worth it to give it a shot. And certainly, if you'll be here in July, you purely might be here for Broadway in the Park, which is held contained by Bryant Park every year. Every Thursday they have cast from various Broadway shows put on a free show within the park. Can't beat that.
Also, you should check out Shakespeare surrounded by the Park (also free). It's at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. You hold to line up untimely for tickets and the play goes on at 7 or 8 PM, so it's an all-day affair, but the price is right and within are usually celebrities within the shows.
You might also want to take a Circle Line tour while you're here. Go to South Street Seaport. And baseball season have started, so why not check out a Yankees game or a Mets spectator sport? It'll be the last season for Shea Stadium (the 7 train will cart you straight there) and for the house that Ruth built, so you might want to experience that now. But some even cheaper baseball, shift to Coney Island and see a Cyclone's game. Ticket's tend to dance for as little as $5, and while you're there you can certainly ride the Cyclone and walk along the Boardwalk.
Speaking of free things, contained by the summer there are free outdoor movie screenings adjectives over the place, most notably within Bryant Park. And in Central Park nearby are all kind of free concerts on the Summer Stage.
Also, why not check out a comedy club while you're here? (Warning: Comedians just love to put together fun of tourists.) Caroline's is near your hotel, but you'll clearly need reservations within and it's pricier. Try Comic Strip Live or Gothic Comedy Club for a cheaper, but just-as-funny experience. The Laugh Factory is also right on 42nd St.
Something else that might be fun for you: Sign up for a Watson Adventures Scavenger Hunt. They do them at different locations around the city and it's a great way to sort of seize a walking tour while having a short time fun.

There is no way you are going to see "all" of NYC so you are going to miss stuff. Lifelong residents of NYC don't see adjectives of NYC.
For specifics, you can buy Broadway tickets in finance. If it's a hot show with star players, the sooner the better. However, most of the tourist shows (any Disney production, MamaMia, Wicked, etc.) will most likely own tickets. If you don't mind what show you want to see and don't mind where you sit, the TKTS booth at the Marriott contained by Times Square offers partially price tickets for the day of the show. Broadway tickets can be expensive, starting out at just about $50 a seat going up to $500 or so depending on the show.
As for seeing the city. Don't filch tours, you will get like experience as watching a travel DVD. If you are going to NYC , experience it through your own eyes -- walk, use the subway, travel to outer boro's.
The Staten Island transfer is free and is a great trip for a view of the upper harbor (Statue of Liberty).
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi's and own a pizza.
