Can I generate a living within New York?
I am almost finishes high academy and thinking about what I want to do beside my life. I don't want to walk to college or university. I have the results for it, but I'm just tired of college and don't want to go for another four years. So, I've other been drawn to New York and hold wanted to live in that for a long time.
Without post secondary lessons, would I be able to gross a living? I am most interested in pursuing a work in music or writing. What are the costs close to for living? I would only want something close to a one bedroom apartment, nothing fancy or anything. Just within a relatively safe nouns. Also, what would the pay be similar to for someone who only have a high academy diploma?
I don't indulge in things I don't entail so I'm I can be okay money wise, but I newly can't know for sure. I do not want to move and then find that I can't afford to live.
Can anyone grant me any advice? I appreciate it SO much! Thanks!

I'm sorry to be more pessimistic than Jesse, but here goes--
New York is one of the most expensive cities in the country to live contained by, and one of the hardest job market to break into, even if you have an excellent teaching.
Come to New York without a college rearing or a very in-demand skill, and you'll predictable find yourself (if you're lucky) in a corporate mailroom, serving as a receptionist somewhere, or waiting table at a not-overly-fancy restaurant. Basically minimum wage jobs or a bit above minimum wage.
Housing is extremely expensive. Figure on at lowest $1,000 a month for a small apartment in a not-too-good nouns of the city.
All of the above is made even worse for a young woman, who may enjoy somewhat fewer opportunity, and more people trying to appropriate advantage of your age and famine of NYC experience.
And have you considered who is going to rent an apartment to you at age 18 and minus a reliable source of income? Generally the landlord will want proof that you're at lowest possible 21, which is the age at which you can sign legally binding contracts, such as an apartment lease, plus take-home pay stubs showing that you've been working steady at a charge where you will earn plenty to pay the rent respectively month.
The only route I can see your plan work is if you have a friend or a relative who would allow you to live near them, rent-free, as you get yourself established.
If college isn't what you want to do in a minute, okay, but New York isn't a good place to find what you want to do. There will be extreme competition and markedly high expenses. Wait until you're elder.
As I said at the beginning, sorry for sounding so down, but at age 18 few are set to tackle New York.

New York has the first or second untouchable pay level in the country, and this is true down to the lowest horizontal jobs. One entry is universally true everyplace though, and is even more so here: the best paying jobs shift to people next to a Bachelor's degree or greater. There will eventually be a time in your energy when you will have any become a great big star or you will find yourself unable to move any further minus that college degree that right very soon you don't want. There will eventually come a time where the excitement of man here will begin to wear stale and all you will grain is how badly you want nice things contained by life and financial financial guarantee you don't have. What others come across not to realize, here and in other facet of life, is that this would be true anyplace you turn.
I understand roughly speaking not being primed to go to college. All I'm adage is that if you get to be 21 (edited from 24, which I've contracted is really pushing it) and haven't made it in music or writing, start going to college while you verbs to pursue your dreams. Make sure you either study something i.e. really going to pay ably here or study creative writing and plan to get a Master's amount and a Ph.D so you can teach.
Living contained by New York will make you start wanting to afford the polite life. You'll want to create sure you can get it.
And honestly? Don't tolerate a serious relationship sidetrack you. You have a while to run before you have need of to bring that into your life. If after you receive here you meet some awesome guy who make you want to get married, be practical. You're an artist so you own to choose someone who makes a pious living.
The best way to spawn sure you can make a fully clad living for yourself now is if you any have waitress/bartending experience (tips are fairly substantial for good service here), or if you enjoy very flawless keyboarding skills (at least 60 w.p.m.) and FLUENT use of the Microsoft Office suite (the total shebang), you will always work even if you mostly temp. You'll want to generate sure that you have the fitness to operate a switchboard so if you don't have corporate office/secretary/receptionist experience, while you're finishing up large school any get a situation in that dimensions where you are or possibly even go to volunteermatch.org and volunteer to do it for someone for a few months.

So, yes, if you own those skills I talked just about, you can make a living. There are plenty of places, not surrounded by Manhattan so much, but in Brooklyn or Queens (Staten Island is too inconvenient as is any DECENT chunk of the Bronx) where you'll be capable of afford a studio or 1-bedroom apartment by yourself or a two-three bedroom with a roommate or two.

Do NOT listen to Will. I'm sorry to have to ring up someone out like that, but it of late simply isn't true. What you SHOULD be prepared for is for it to take several months to establish yourself and obtain hired someplace, so you're going to need your parents' financial relief or you're going to need to hold six months' expenses saved beforehand you come, and that is a great deal of money.
About what Don said, I respect him from my other sightings of him on Answers, but I really don't agree necessarily. I think it can be somewhat close to that, but trust me, you can get a studio apartment or a 1 bedroom surrounded by a perfectly nice nouns of Queens like Astoria or Sunnyside for that price or even within the Park Slope area of Brooklyn which have been coming down contained by price. You will see great deals surrounded by Washington Heights but do not, I repeat, DO NOT live there or I will simply own to find you and kick your butt...and I won't be the first.
You can't afford to live surrounded by Manhattan if you're going to come to New York under those circumstances. You may as ably accept that presently. Another thing is, please believe me when I relay you this. People will always make clear to you how expensive it is to live here, and it sure can be, but it is highly overstated surrounded by my opinion. I be born and raised surrounded by New York City and lived here until age 30. At age 30, I moved to Austin, Texas and lived there until a few months until that time I turned 40. My family is a working class line. We live on one income because we have a disabled child at home and it make it hard for in that to not be at least one character here, plus, I have a severe sleeping disorder making conventional employment massively difficult for me (I'm going to a sleep clinic soon). In any event, I'm rambling, but long story made short, we hold been so much better stale since we came final here ("back" for me, just plain here for my husband). Yes, we earnings more taxes. Yes, we pay more rent. However, the rate scale is highly developed and we are no longer supporting a car. In appendix to which, our utility bills are roughly half of what they used to be. We have a feeling very much more lolly fluid here.
People want you to be prepared for the worst case scenario, and that's capably intended, but I honestly think they're anyone more pessimistic than they have to be.
I will read out that a co-signer will help you return with past any hurdles you might hold if you have no established credit. I ponder landlords will rent to 18-year-olds. This city is full of college students. But if you're going to do it without established credit, your parents may necessitate to be guarantors on your lease.
