Get the best price on any of the center strip hotels so you can avoid the cost of transportation. You did not mention how long your stay is. I am assuming it is two or three days. Do NOT stay at the Tropicana. We stayed there because it be a bargain, but you acquire what you pay for. It's on the schedule to be demolished soon, and it definitely shows. If you enjoy the money, the Bellagio is gorgeous. A friend of mine stayed there and said it be wonderful. Also, be sure to see some shows while you're in town. For restaurant choices, I recommend Fatburger for nifty food (I live on the East Coast and I'm glad there really aren't any close by me - it was that addictive) and for finer dining, Pampas Brazilian Steakhouse surrounded by Planet Hollywood.

I agree next to the other answerers who say stay on the strip. I own stayed at the Luxor several times and was competent to get deeply good room rates. There is a large amount of free entertainment along the strip like the fountains at Belagio, and the Pirates, the Lions at MGM. There is a large amount of famous art work limp in the casinos - find a guide book and do an art tour!
I would suggest that you avoid the hotels in downtown Vegas. The Fremont nouns it's self has closely of security, however the surrounding neighborhood is not nontoxic.
I'm assuming this is your first time to Vegas. Depending on your budget and traveling time, you can stay in hotels along the Las Vegas Strip for a quibble. Otherwise, there's a lot of travelodge, residence's inn charitable of hotel just outside the Strip.
You can find a tour that will bring you to Grand Canyon (tours can be found along the Strip). Or you can a moment ago cruise along the Strip. There's casinos, Cabaret shows, buffets, nightclubs, etc.
For a rookie, I would recommend staying center strip. You will be in the heart of Vegas, walking distance to some of the best sights.

I recommend the Wynn Hotel its got a golden exteriour and reasonably new they do massage in the room and also it is within the center of the strip you can go to the website http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/ through that knit the rooms are quite expensive though but worth it as here is free champagn in the mini public house.

1. Stay at a hotel on the strip. Cheap ones include the Sahara at the north end and Excalibur at the south close.
2. Spend the first day walking the strip. You'll find oriented where on earth different things are (shows, rides).
3. I'd highly recommend a trickery show. The best afternoon magic show is Extreme Magic beside Dirk Arthur.
4. If you can afford it, I'd recommend a Cirque Du Soleil show. O and Mystere are both very obedient.
