I'm thinking of moving to Bay Area from Dallas, TX. How are the housing and duty market near?
If I want to buy ~2000 sq ft, <10 yr old house within a decent neighborhood, how far should I expect the house to be from San Jose? How much should i expect the house price to be?
Other places I'm considering are San Diego and Seattle. I would approaching to hear how you would compare these cities. Thanks.

On price alone, I would go near Seattle. San Diego, and the Bay area will verbs you out financially.
If you're from the south as well, the culture in Seattle would be alot easier to gain along with.
Jobs stir the same. It depends on what bazaar you are in. If you're within computers, Silicon Valley is the place to be.
The Bay Area is going to be the most expensive place out of yur choices. Just bear a look on craigslist and compare prices. U will see living in the cove area is greatly costly.
San Jose/the South Bay is cheaper than other areas of the Bay Area, but still expensive. For 2000 sq ft, you'll be paying at least $700,000 (possibly smaller amount if you find a really good deal), and up to a million or more won't be impossible, in San Jose or anywhere north of it. The further south you go, the cheaper it get. Gilroy and Morgan Hill would be your best options... surrounded by the Bay Area, but just not quite (and debatably so). 15 to 20 miles south of San Jose. The price drops by a couple hundred thousand.
San Diego and Seattle would both be cheaper, if that's essential to you. Seattle is really nice and in my feelings would be better than the San Jose area. Much more cosmopolitan and quirky. San Diego is **** and should be avoided.
