Cascal contained by downtown Mountain View on Castro Street is a very nice date spot that have live salsa/latin music on Friday and Saturday nights. Its a great tapas restaurant and the atmosphere is superlative when going on a date.
Lavanda wine bar surrounded by downtown Palo Alto on University Ave is a great spot to go since or after dinner for a drink. Very intimate and classy setting.
Golden total admission money for sure. Or golden gate park or shifferman's wharf, these places are if truth be told pretty good, besides your mate would be so excited when he see the Awesome Golden gate bridge and you guys would own a good time.
Before your date I would highly suggested strolling around downtown Mountain View for an hour or so. There are SO MANY great restaurants down nearby and it is a really cute area! There's Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, American, etc. etc. etc. You could enjoy drinks at a nice wine bar, wallow in a bistro dinner, and follow it up with gelato and a stroll down the good-looking main street. Go check out some menus and see what appeals to you!
