Amtrak. Amtrak.com
PATH. Hands down! And it's right subsequent to Penn Station...just stroll a block over to 6th Avenue. You'll want the train marked "JSQ" (Journal Square).
Take the PATH train from 33rd and 6th. Get off at Pavonia/Newport surrounded by Jersey City. Don't mess with NJ Transit, because you can't do it by train.
Here is where on earth you can get the rota: http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.s...
You might have to lift the train to Secaucus and then receive on another train from there. If to be exact the case look at the blind and get on any train that have a "sec" next to it. You hold to wait for the announcement that say "the 5:45 train to _______[a city] is leaving from track 4" later you go to the track 4 door and follow the other race. Get off at Secaucus and return with on the train to Jersey City [make sure there is one, hehe]. There might be a direct train.
Whatever you do, don't step during rush hour. It is insane especially if you don't know where you are going. I know from experience of my first time taking the train after age 9 or 10 and it be with my friend who be a year younger than me. We were completely confused and alarmed.
You have two option here and Amtrak is not one of them.
Walk to 33rd and 6th and the Jersey City bound PATH to your the station closest to where your going (Journal Square, Newport, etc.)
Your other selection which is technically backtracking but I think its cleaner (though not the cheapest) is to embezzle NJ Transit to Newark. From Newark take the PATH to Jersey City.
