I hold a 6:45 AM flight to JFK on the 24th of December, and I live within Bedford Park, Bronx presently...Suggestions?
Hi, I have a flight on 24th of December to JFK, and truthfully I'm a bit worried as folks said that it could get for a moment dangerous. I be planning on leaving around 2 or 3 AM from Bedford Park, Bronx, and taking the subway to JFK. I don't want to foot $50+ for the taxi, and I don't suggest those airport shuttle services will come all the route here. Is this going to be safe, or do I hold a large risk factor? I be planning on possibly going to the airport the night since, but I don't know what I would do for 10 hours; I can't really sleep at airports or airplanes. Suggestions? Thank you.

I am female purely under 5 foot and have taken the M60 bus at 5am by myself at 125 st and Lenox several times.
This is NYC relatives are always out so I really dont deliberate you will have a problem-I mull over the biggest problem is walking to the train station. Check with transit and see what time the train leaves the station so you can be near perhaps 5 minutes up to that time. I dont know if you are closer to the D or 4 train. Remember this time of the night everything is running really slow. Have not taken moved out from JFK since they got rid of the $2 fare.
Also check to see what time the bus go to JFK from 42nd st (its actually bad 42 st just south of pompous central where on earth all the buses jump to the airport)-same block right around the corner where the airlines bureau was (dont know if its still in attendance on the second floor). I dont know how much it is though that might be better since they stopped the $2 fare from the A train.
Have a great trip!
Call SuperShuttle (1-8OO-258-3826) and/or ETS Shuttle (718-221-5341) to see if they'll pick up from your neighborhood, how much they'd charge, and how early they'd insist on picking you up. My guess is that you can and should do the shuttle.
If that's not workable, recover or borrow the money to take a minicab. The cab will run $50+, yes, but a hotel room close to the airport would be 3 times that if you could even get one.
I don't know the specifics of sanctuary on the subway in the middle of the darkness in the Bronx, but if you don't perceive comfortable doing it, you shouldn't do it.
Find a neighbor, friend or coworker (with a vehicle) and pay them $30 bucks to fetch you. If they got a gas guzzler... trade name it $35.
Why are you travelling so close to Christmas? You know if the weather is awful and they get a snag, you may sit there until Wednesday.
If you're that concerned, I'd say the $50 would be worth it. Take the hackney cab.
That time of night is risky.especially along the "D" and "4" lines. Just waiting for a train that slowly at night up in that, especially with luggage, is a risk.
You MAY want to go and get a cab (or a ride) to pilfer you to 53rd & Lexington (where the "E" train is...under the Citigroup (lipstick) building). From in that, take the "E" train (Queens bound - ride contained by the conductor's car) which does go express to Sutphin Blvd/Archer Avenue. From near, take the AirTrain ($5) that will directly embezzle you to the terminals of JFK. Cops are roughly around the Sutphin Blvd. station since you do have tourists that want to get to JFK.
That will distinctly save you some money and a much safer alternative...at most minuscule you'd be in Manhattan & Queens instead of trekking through the fruitless parts of the Bronx that late at dark.
My advice, if you want to gather some money and don't want to take the subway at 2am, is to take home a hotel reservation near JFK to stay for the darkness. You can check out of the hotel at 3 or 4am, and take a regular pallid cab or airport shuttle to the terminal where on earth your flight is departing. That way you will cause it to your flight on time and be at wellbeing.
Just use New York Airport Service. They are a bus company that leaves from Grand Central to all airports within the area. A One route fare is $15 and the only entry you will need to do is cart the subway down to Grand Central. Once at Grand Central, walk to the corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue (in front of the Chase bank) and you will see a stripe of buses there. Go to to the ticket van, buy your ticket and you'll be at JFK within no time. It's quicker than the subway, cheaper than a cab and have frequent service to the airports.
Living within the Bronx, I can definite see your dilemna.
1. Most expensive but logical choice, taking a hackney cab. Yes you spend more $$$ but you get in attendance on time, lacking a lot of fuss.
2. Taking the train is approach cheaper, but you will spend to much time travelling from train to train, just to carry to the airport. For a 6:45 flight, you might have to leave your job at 2-3 am just to dispense yourself enough time.
3. Best Answer. Pay a friend to cart you to the airport. If you have a friend next to a car.
4. 2nd Best Answer. If you don't enjoy a friend, you can look for rides on Craiglist. I left a cooperation for rides down below.
