The nouns around Harlem/Hamilton Heights has inexpensive apartments. Many Columbia and City College students rent apartments over in that. It is not the best area but it's not that fruitless.
I live within Brooklyn. The trendier and "nicer" areas like Park Slope will cost you anywhere from $1500 and up. A particularly popular area next to younger people is Bay Ridge. Apartments gamut from a studio($8OO-$1000) to 1 bedrooms($1000-$1300).
check http://newyork.craigslist.org
For that price you will have to rent a crypt or a furnished room out of someone's house in Queens or Brooklyn. It's possible. My mother rents my outdated bedroom for $700, unfotunately it's not available. I don't know what college you are going to, but look for areas near St. johns, Queens College, other CUNY school. Plenty of family homes renting rooms, but you won't find your own apartment.
Brooklyn, or NJ. Check on craigslist. If you go to a borough you most feasible will have to pay envelope a real estate agent for finding an apart.
The only opening you will be paying 500 - 700 a month in NYC is if you hit 5 people into a 2 bedroom apartment.
It's tremendously unrealistic and prices keep rising. I currently live a short time ago outside of Manhattan in Queens and I earnings $2700 a month for a 1 bdrm. You could probably find something cheap in Harlem--maybe a studio for $1100 or so but the nouns probably won't be desirable.
Anything in Manhattan is premium.
I'm afraid $500-$700 isn't going to happen contained by the NYC. Even NJ and the outer boroughs are expensive. Try looking for a room mate.
NO WHERE for the kind of money you are chitchat about unless you attain into "public housing" through the NYC Housing Authority.
hahahahha. you will never find a cheap apartment within NYC. I'm sorry.
Check craigslist. That is a very small budget. You will own too look outside the city. I've seen cheap places within queens, brooklyn and the bronx going for 7-800 but I havent seen cheaper than that. MYC definately isnt tennessee and rents here are much sophisticated. 5-700 wouldnt get a room contained by a crack house. Unless thats 5-700 a month each?
And a nicer nouns that may fitin your budget...check astoria, queens.
