Found this website where you can compare features and rates.
The Driskill is a organized old historic hotel downtown (but probably a bit pricy)
The ones along the lake/riverfront (whatever they hail as it by the bridge where the bat are) are nice because they usually have courtyards that expand to this waterfront park area and are also jammy walking distance from 6th street.
Would advise you stay here to some extent than right on 6th street unless you really like mortal in the middle of that atmosphere adjectives hours of the night (can bring back a little delirious & loud & may be a tad less safe).
Austin is a fun town--if you carry a chance devour at Serrano's downtown--very good Mexican food (unless it have changed since I was nearby last!)

The Driscal is nice, but Austin is a really spread out town, you cant really amble anywhere unless you wanna spend the whole time within walking.
If you want to help "preserve Austin weird," stay someplace funky resembling the Austin Motel on South Congress. South Congress is cooler and funkier than Sixth Street, but you can easily pick up a bus to Sixth Street if you want to hang out here.

If you want to stay close to 6th st. look at the Embassy Suites on Congress at the river. It raise its prices so it is not as reasonable as it be last year.
There are lots of hotels, but you can't step very heaps places.
Depending on your stay you might just rent a motor.
There's a nice underpass right downtown where on earth I-35 passes through. Centrally located, not too dirty, and I don't deliberate anyone's laid claim to it yet.
