Making the Move ---> Chicago?
I'm from michigan, moved to las vegas 2 years ago, considering moving closer to home for a little while, and thinking give or take a few chicago, the economy is inviting. A few things Id resembling to know...
-dog friendly: I have a puppy, she will probably max out around 65 lbs (lab mix, very friendly). where on earth are the GOOD dog parks, what are the nice areas/apts to live in that purloin big dogs? an other dog friendly areas (outdoor restaurants, shopping, etc)?
-Getting around: my fiance and I share a car. I've hear its easy to capture around in chicago in need a car, and sometimes its preferred. is this true? is in attendance a metro that runs to nicer areas? Whats the cab mount (in general obviously), are they undisruptive?
-Communities: I've done some research and I know to stay away from the south side, west side, and dont go to the loop after brown. but where SHOULD i be in motion?
-and of course..best nightclub, food, etc.?

Getting around the city is horrible. The CTA and highway suck and gas is really high and unless you own a house i wouldnt recommend getting a dog. The food is overrated and the clubs are for queers, eurotrash, and douchebags. You want to live on the west or southside? You better expect to bring robbed.
Chicago is a great place to live - you should definatly move here.
I live surrounded by Lakeview on the North side of the city - I am a few blocks from the lake and going on for 20 minutes by train to downtown. There are lots and lots of people that hold dogs in my neighborhood - everything from little yappy dogs to Great Danes. While it's a huge city, in attendance are parks all over the place - you can find most of the hulking ones online but there are smaller parks speckled all over the place.
Getting around short a car isn't a problem. If you haven't hear, there are some issues (ok, huge issues) near public transit funding and a good number of the bus lines are self cut. However, this doesn't affect the North side too much (horrible, but that is the more affluent segment of town, by and large). One car should be without fault fine for two people - I park on the street in need issue and don't drive too much. Really, a car is singular good for trips to Target or the grocery (if you live far away from one) and getting out of town.
Cabs are faultlessly safe surrounded by the city - I've never had a problem, and most hackney carriage drivers are nice and courteous - many will even dally to make sure you obtain into your apartment when dropping you off alone and darkness. The rates are the same across the board - $2.25 to verbs, $1 per extra rider and $1.20 per mile or 6 minutes of standing - that may be off by a few cents but it's an approximation.
Honestly, I would suggest living on the North Side - Lakeview is great. Some places on the West Side resembling Wicker Park and Bucktown are nice too - but it can be diffcult to get to other places contained by the city from those locations because the El runs into the Loop before heading contained by any other direction.

It's easy to find a obedient nightlife and excellent food in the city. The darkness life really depends on what you are looking for, but you can other check out metromix.com for either bar or food. Chicago has so frequent different ethnic neighborhoods that you can get anything from Indian to Ethopean to Cuban food.

As far as these parks go, adjectives are in nice or believably nice areas except for Hamlin Park.
Generally, getting around in Chicago in need a car is not difficult if you are surrounded by an area beside good public transportation. The lakefront neighborhoods adjectives have biddable access, and if you live relatively close to an L stop (even if you need a short bus ride to achieve there) you'll have suitable flexibility.
Look, the whole south side isn't fruitless. The south loop, and Hyde Park are both nice areas. Hyde Park, in selective, has huge parks around, though technically none of them are off-leash areas. There's even a striking water fountain at the Point (55th st. east of Lake Shore Drive) inhabitants & dogs.
The Wicker Park area on the NW side is a dutiful bet, as are Lakeview and Lincoln Park on the north side.
EDIT in response to your query: You can look at crime reports going back two years at http://www.chicagocrime.org/ Touhy within West Ridge is OK; you'll see a lot of orthodox Jews within that area. Farther east, Touhy within Rogers Park near Clark is a latino immigrant neighborhood.
