Well, there are lots of things to do and see both within L.A. and in San Diego, so it adjectives comes down to how many days you own in respectively place and what your interests are. However, I'll give you some design of what would be worth seeing.
In L.A. you should go and see the Hollywood sign and the stars on the sidewalk. Also it's worth driving along Beverly Hills. Except from that you might want to shift to Knott's Berry Farm if you have kids next to you. Universal Studios might be worth seeing, but I haven't been nearby, so I can't say that for sure. Another point you might want to do is to go to California Adventure which is right outside Disneyland. The electric flimsy parade they enjoy at night(not sure if they have these adjectives year around) is awesome, and also especially the attraction "Soaring over California" is great to see there.
In San Diego you would probably want to jump to some of these: Sea World, La Jolla, Balboa Park, Old Town, Downtown, Point Loma, Hotel Del Coronado and Seaport Village. It all depends on what you prefer. Sea World is profusely of fun with rides and animals, and great for thaw days as you are likely to take wet on unquestionable rides and shows(if you sit in the front). La Jolla is a bit up north from San Diego, but the shore is superb and there are lots of Sea Lions and Seals nearby. Also the Sunny Jim Cave is an awsome experience in La Jolla. In Balboa Park you will find something for everyone, near are museums there as okay as an international village, an IMAX movie theater, other theaters and a great nouns for a walk. Old Town have lots of old mexican buildings, while Downtown is a newer nouns with lots of taller organization buildings as well as malls and restaurants. In Point Loma you should run to the old lighthouse, the tide pools and the Cabrillo National Monument(they are contained by the same area), where on earth you also get a great estimation of the city. Hotel Del Coronado is a famous antediluvian hotel which is said to be haunted. Seaport Village is a great area for shopping and near are some attractions there as okay. In addition to this you might want to turn to one of the beaches surrounded by the San Diego area. Also the Wild Animal Park is great, but you might want to choose any that or the San Diego Zoo, at least if you don't hold a lot of time here.
Hope this helped you some. There are so oodles great places in this nouns, so you can just choose anything you're interested in seeing.
