Pick up a copy of the Village Voice (it's a local free paper) and towards the back are adjectives the live music venue listings (page after page). You'll probably find something you like contained by there and once you run, the people near will be good resources to finding other venue you might like.
Hard Rock Cafe own cover nights. I saw ACDC, Metallica and other cover act there and it be great fun.
