In places where crime is lower or implicit the U.S. average, like for example Cary, and Apex, the houses are comparatively expensive.
I hear that the humidity is aweful! And not only are mosquitoes a twinge in the summer, there's other a chance of flooding due to hurricanes.

Moved here from massachusetts (taxachusetts) 3 years ago... It is NOT cheaper in taxes or living expenses surrounded by NC. Houses were cheaper than the suburbs of Boston, but not worth moving here for. Traffic is getting discouraging. the drought was impossible and will happen again. Houses are one built all over the place (toooo many). Grass doesn't grow surrounded by the lawn. fire ants and wolf spiders...
Good side: those are nice. No snow :)
Weather is cold in the winter (warmer than boston, but you soon loose the northern skin ;) and too humid surrounded by the summer... not much in between...
