Does anyone know fitting cheap (college kids no $) things to do around Boston for someone visit for a week?

They have transportation - and hold no problem using the T or commuter rail. Also - can be NH, ME, MA, CT and RI.

Funny thing going on for Boston is that it's expensive to live here, but if you're visiting there's like mad you can do for pretty cheap money. Walking around the Commons, Harvard Square and the waterfront are all pretty cool. If you pace around Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market it's fun and there's pretty cheap options too. You can go and get into the JFK musuem for really cheap money. Also, of course- the beach! You can win down to the Cape, or even up to the North Shore or NH and that's a nice inexpensive day to step along the shore.
The Commons of course
Hi...here's the boat intermingle..least the one I've posted in the order of here numerous times http://boston-ptown.com/schedule.html. I always recommend the longer/cheaper one (though it go up to $33 RT this year I see). You also might want to check out this co and Boston Harbor cruises (some boats there not as nice) as within are tons of cheap Boston Harbor cruises.

Some additional suggestions. They can filch commuter rail or drive to Singing Beach within Manchester by the Sea. It's one of the prettiest beaches contained by the state IMHO (my 2nd fav and fav off Cape). It's around a 1/4 mile walk from the train--def below 1/2. Another fun day trip is Rockport (both train and car). Some places can be pricey but it's lovely to poke around and if they progress to the Strudel place (down on the rt), they can get a beverage and yummy strudel for a few buck and sit on the deck out put a bet on with a million dollar ocean view.

I'd check to see what towns are have any festivals, fair, bands etc and see what's going on when they are here, and same for Boston unsurprisingly.

One must do is Harvard Sq, as is Quincy Market. Both are fun to poke around and esp during weekends are filled next to street musicians, magician's and just adjectives sorts of fun.

Also is anyone local? All MA libraries have free pass you can take out for a great choice of musueums, and interesting places such as the Wildflower garden in the squally in Framingham. Plus I'm sure most if all own student discouts. I have some great links on my chief puter which is down. If i can find them again I'll post them later. Hope this help some!
There's plenty to see in New England but one entry I would recommend and it's not expensive is a ferry trip to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod, for the sunshine and back. Lots of relatives take bicycles. I know it's prearranged as the gay capital of the East coast but it's not really so surrounded by your face.
It's a great little town to be exact pedestrian friendly and the beaches are nice. It's a pretty long boat ride and whales can sometimes be see on the way. It's a fitting day trip but you enjoy to reserve passage untimely because it fills up quickly.
The Prudential Center within Boston is cool.
Visiting from where? We hold miles & miles of beatiful beaches. Check out Arts contained by the Parks run by Boston Mayor's office...lots of free concerts & movies. If their coming within July August they should check out the street festivals contained by the Northend. The Freedom Trail of course is other free and a lot of the Museums hold discounts at certain times or if you know someone that lives within Boston they can get free Musuem pass from the library. There's tons to do for free or real cheap here. There are boats to Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket that confer on from Hyannis...about an hour drive or bus ride from Boston. ( $18 respectively way) Enjoy!
