What should I do if I am arriving surrounded by Las Vegas several hours until that time my best friend?
I will be getting there at 8:30 surrounded by the morning (too early to check in) and she will not be arriving until almost 10:30 that evening. We are staying at the Stratosphere. Could you suggest some things for me to do alone until she arrives? I will gamble some but evidently will not gamble and drink for 14 hours alone. lol

Yeah, I'd vote shop 'til you drop, gamble, and freshly take your time doing anything. Be careful, though. :)
If you have profusely of luggage, call the hotel and ask if they'll hold on to it safe for you (i.e., aft the desk; not just sitting surrounded by the lobby!) until you are allowed to check-in (3pm). If not, hang-out in their lobby until check-in time (take a long lunch!); return with a local newspaper and a few magazine; check-out the free coupon books (there are all sorts of them, available at the airport, hotels, stores, tourist and information kiosk, etc); ask the concierge or front desk if there's something special or unusual going on that day simply anywhere on the strip; you'll save a fortune by not laying a bet! ;) FYI, there's no free shuttle from the airport to the Stratosphere, which is about 4 miles away, as the crow flies.
If you hold just a backpack, and are wearing comfortable shoes, and are within good shape, after stroll around the area (either from the airport or the hotel or downtown) to attain a feel for the layout; write down things that look interesting.
Obviously, you won't want to do things that your friend might want to do, but it couldn't hurt to grasp all the info you can something like Vegas (on my first day within, just wandering aimlessly, I found TONS of tourist brochures and free coupon books! My arm ache from carrying them in a huge shopping pouch! It took me hours to sift through it all at the hotel (I be in a similar situation as you), but it be well worth it!
BTW, it is relatively not dangerous during the day, but please use alertness when heading out at night, as here are unsavory characters and bad neighborhoods of late yards from the strip. And, according to the weather forecast, there's a 90% luck of rain on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 26 and 27; you didn't say-so what days you'll be there), so bring or buy an umbrella!

as soon as the sun goes down i would produce sure you are in your room, that fragment of the strip is full of a bunch of bums and crazy C**** H****

First of all, take a taxi or an airport shuttle up to the Stratosphere and ask the front desk in the region of availability to check in. Yes, checkin is slated for 2 or 3pm however, if the hotel is not at size and has rooms available for checkin; surrounded by some cases they will certainly build an exception. If a room is not yet available for you, check your luggage at the bell desk. They will contribute you a claim slip and essentially will hold the luggage for as long as you need it to stay here.
The Stratosphere has a pretty nice breakfast buffet; in the region of $7 per person and VERY innards. So check that out for an early buffet. I'm not sure on the lunch or dinner buffet there though; never eat during those times.
There are some cute shops that will likely spread out around 10am on the retail level (up the escalators primary to the tower entrance). Other than that, outside the hotel the Sahara hotel/casino is close by -- they have a roller coaster nearby that you could check out (Speed: The Ride) and there is the "Worlds Largest Gift Shop" in that on the corner of the Strip and Sahara Ave. That's worth a few hours wandering time right there...
Other than that, the Las Vegas Premium Outlets are rotten of Charleston and Las Vegas Blvd (grab a cab to catch there, I don`t know $10 each way)... and obviously, lots of casinos and sightseeing to the south of you. Your options are continuous. Check with your concierge for tips and philosophy :)
Yikes! That's a long dally! If you've got the money for it - turn the spa! That's a great way to relax, unwind, and gamble away some time. As soon as you can, check into your room. That's a good time dropout too - especially so you can nap to bring back ready for the long hours of darkness you have ahead of you!
Until check-in time, check your luggage within at the front desk. You definitely don't want to be lugging that around adjectives day!
There's nil real appropriate within walking distance of the Stratsophere, so pilfer a cab to Fashion Show Mall and shop/walk around. Enjoy!
Catch a shuttle over the your hotel (gray line $6ow). Maybe you might gain lucky and get to check surrounded by early. If not I would seize something to eat and step the strip. They got a few malls on the strip you can hit up. Than you can conceivably take within one of the afternoon shows at around 2pm. They have a tricks, comedy, and some singing. Than I would head vertebrae to the room chill watch some tv, drink, than wait for your friend to arrive.

Is in attendance a pool at the Stratosphere? If yes, just sit by the pool and read and achieve a tan, it's one of the individual free things to do in Vegas. Or, if there's not a pool at the Stratosphere, simply sneak into a pool elsewhere.
It depends on your interests...if it be me:
I would get involved surrounded by $25-$60 poker tournaments. These can kill lots of time if you hold some basic understanding and potentially winn you several hundred dollars or more. Much more price and time value than slots or other table games.
Outside of that nearby are a few daytime shows that are reasonably priced. See Mac Kink at Harrahs for an example.
