If you are near Union Square/Market St nouns, you can use the Cable cars ($5 round trip) to get to Fishermans Wharf. You can also use the F trains that run along Market. They will pilfer you there as ably for $1.50.
You can do alot at the wharf..,,this may be a good starting point.
From here you can:
* See the Sea Lions at Pier 39.
* See Alcatraz in the Bay
* See the Golden Gate Bridge
* Eat at some nice places (crab, Chowder contained by a sourdough bowl MMM)
Consider biking across the GG Bridge. The cost of a bike rental is $7 an hour. Budget a few hours for this. But breathtaking :)
There are many Tour boats available to cruise the inlet but most are costly at $15-30.
If you go to the Ferry Bldg, you can ride the Sausalito Ferry for in the region of half that price. Check schedule.
Consider Chinatown as well!
Have fun!
Take a ferry ride to Sausalito. You will go by the Golden Gate Bridge (great for pics if the day is nice). If you come final on the ferry you can hike to Fisherman's wharf and see Coit tower and do a little shopping on the style.
The trip to Alcatraz is an all sunshine trip but there are plenty of places to see it minus visiting and run some pictures.
Fisherman's wharf is great. There is a place there by the marine where you can see Alcatraz and TONS of seal!
Lombard street is fun to walk down.
The Winchester Mystery house is not within San Francisco but a city (San Jose) about a 50 minute drive away. It's really orderly if you have the time. But if you want to return with in as much of San Francisco as you can, I suggest you skip it until another time.
If you delight in going to the theater, try and get some tickets to see Beach Blanket Babylon!
If your into seeing the center for the hippie movement, check out the Haight-Ashbury district. You can check out the Golden Gate Park while your nearby.
Have a great trip!
