Manayunk, Philadelphia... best places to hit?
Ok, now I live pretty close to Philly contained by Fort Washington. It's on the R5 route. I have kith and kin coming in from CA and I hear that Manayunk is a trim part of the city to stop by and have lunch or dinner, shop, bearing around...problem is I don't really understand exactly where on earth it is in the city, how to bring back there, and what in attendance is to do there. I entail some tips from locals here, I'm a little out of the loop. By the instrument, the family is my MIL, SIL and BIL, not the club scene type. They might approaching a brewery though. And we will have my 2 kids next to us ages 4 and 6. Thanks for your help!

Manayunk is within the NW, near Roxborough, Germantown, and Chestnut Hill--it's pretty much directly south of Ft. Washington (it's roughly ten miles; I'd run a Google Maps search for better directions). Street parking is available, though sometimes sturdy to find; there are also salaried parking lots. You can get nearby by public transportation, but since Manayunk is on the R6 line, you would own to take the R5 to Center City and move.
Manayunk IS a really neat little element of town. It's removed from the city itself, so it has a friendlier, more suburban vibe to it (there's a massive residential section near many childlike people & family; a lot of my friends live there).
Most of the shops & restaurants are down along Main Street. In certainty, you could spend the whole hours of daylight just walking up and down that one street--it is packed like sardines with little shops & boutiques. Manayunk is also set for its restaurants and nightlife. There are a lot of clubs and similar environments, but that's not to read aloud you can't find anything appropriate for your family.
You mentioned you'd resembling a brewery. The Manayunk Brewery is located right on the river in a big, refurbished mill. They have live music and a diverse menu (including a sushi bar), and a full inspection of beers (including their own regular & seasonal ales). I'd recommend going a little before in the evening, as it can bring back pretty packed as the dark goes on. http://www.manayunkbrewery.com
Other restaurants include Zesty's (Greek), Il Tartufo (Italian), Hikaru (Japanese), Bourbon Blue, Chabaa Thai, Derek's, and Jake's. There are a ton of caf¨¦, a diner (off the main strip, subsequent to the movie theatre), and I'm sure the kids will want to stop at Ben & Jerry's. ;-)
Have fun, and I hope your in-laws enjoy their trip!
