The bean contained by the park is the best. I love it!
Ouch. There is no mode possible to have one answer to that examine. WAY too much to do in Chicago. I'll contribute you a Top 10, then you can opt. (These are in no exceptional order)
1. Visit Milennium Park (especially in unpaid April or May)
2. Taste of Chicago in July (go on a weekday, smaller quantity crowded)
3. Baseball game (preferably Cubs, but White Sox will do as well)
4. John Hancock Center (view is better than Sears Tower)
5. Navy Pier (avoid the more tourist-y parts of it when possible)
6. Gino's East or the unproved Pizzeria Uno (don't expect to lose any weight here)
7. A meander along Belmont or Oak Street Beach
8. A music festival within Grant Park (Jazz, Gospel, and Blues are the best)
9. Any location that serves an authentic Chicago-style Hot Dog (mustard, neon-green relish, pickle, onions, celery salt, NO KETCHUP!)
10. An architectural boat ride along Lake Michigan or the Chicago River. (WELL worth it, trust me.)
I'm sure I missed relatively a few of them, but others will fill those contained by for you.
When my family comes I other take them for a boat ride at flotilla pier, they have high ships and ships that are more cruise like. It is a flawless "touristy" thing and everyone is other amazed by the size of the lake. Plus within is always the back and after on the pier

There are so oodles great places to visit contained by Chicago. I agree with the others who commented. But, if I have to narrow it down to in recent times one place, it would be Navy Pier. There's a lot to do in that, and if you have kids, they will enjoy fun too. There are many food choices at hand as well. Have fun!

Now, for mine: If you're into art and/or museums, check out the Art Institute, the Shedd Aquarium, the Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum. They are all right around Millenium Park and are terrifically accessible. The Museum of Science and Industry is in Hyde Park contained by the south part of town, but it's also worth it. Depending on the time of your call in, you can see Oak Street Beach during the summer.
Now, we also have the Air and Water Show contained by early August, Venetian Night sometime surrounded by July or August and spectacular but very crowded July 4 celebrations and fireworks.
Whatever you do, explore the town and savour it.
If you similar to museums Chicago has some of the best. The Natural history museum is great, but my personal favorite is the Museum of Science & Industry. My wife and I own been several times.
Others mentioned it but the weakness fest in the summer is great, and the baseball games are fun to. I resembling either troop.
Also get a philosophical dish Chicago Style Pizza at the original Giordiano's, i believe on Erie st. (Might be Ontario, can't remember!)

Well, you said "place" (singular), so I'll only confer you one: The Signature Lounge at the top of the John Hancock Building. Go to the south side of the building and take the elevator to the 96 floor. It have THE best view of the city on any side: north, south, east and west. It may be somewhat pricey ($8.50 for a regular beer), but it's worth it. You can get a litle something to snack on, sip on a drink (if you're hoary enough) and enjoy the spectacle. There's also a restaurant up there so if you enjoy money to spend, you might want to check that out too. But i's definitely the one place to see contained by Chicago if you can only see ONE place.
I am sure you don't want to miss a nice and relaxing walk along Magnificant mile. You can see the most pretty view standing on Chicago River (across from NBC Tower)
