How horrible is Phoenix traffic?
Haven't been near but will be going soon. Trying to decide if it would be smarter to take cabs or rent a car. I'm used to Dallas-Fort Worth traffic but I feel Phoenix is a little bigger.

Rent a motor, my experience with cabs contained by Phoenix is they are really expensive and totally unreliable. Right now, traffic is not so desperate even during the typical rush hours, but of course it depends on the nouns of town as well. Traffic is horrible adjectives the time all over when the snowbirds are here but the bake has chased them out very soon. The freeways and streets here are grid pattern so pretty graceful to figure out but everything is far apart. Get a correct road map and look at it before you come. Phoenix drivers are aggressive but if you stay to the right you'll be okay. The departed lane is the fast lane and going 55 at hand will get you run bad the road, even if that is the speed stricture.
Rent a car- minicab fare will cost you a small fortune.
Like any major city, traffic is fruitless in the morning when everyone is going to work and the evenings when everyone is going home. Otherwise, its not too bleak. Phoenix is laid out like a grid, near central avenue (runs north/south) as the dividing chain. Everything running west of Central is an "avenue" and everything running east of Central is a "street". And they're all numbers-7th Street, 59th Avenue.
Any street name like Glendale, Bell, Thomas adjectives run east/west. There are tons of freeways here to get around. And plenty of alternative routes if needed. The vale is really spread out, but really easy to digit out where you are. Good luck.

That's right, it's not adequate that you don't own your car, you own to claim ownership of your lane, or wait, is it adjectives three/four/five lanes?
It's a manner I have term: Rupidity -- you're sure they're being rude, but are they smart ample to realllllly know? Hmmmm.
In Boston, it's defensive driving. In New York, it's impolite driving. In LA, it's murderous driving.
In Phoenix, we compete. We bring busy highways to a DEAD STOP to obtain into the HOV (high occupancy vehicle -- 2 or more people) Lane, or as I close to to call it: The Entitlement Lane, lol.

Sorta similar to "create-your-own-sundae", but so very much more stony. Watch as people from other countries (stop one so racist) decide at the deeply last split second that they NEED to capture in to that Circle K or Sonic or Walgreens. Be amazed that anyone lives through it! Watch the scramble fun as others drive around the debris of headlights and side panel! Use your cellphone to capture the non-stop fun of roadside drama!
And if you're similar to me, having be here 9 years, eventually you hang support about a partially block and watch the stupidity come to pass, and learn to a short time ago laugh audibly at it...

Definitely rent a vehicle; just avoid rush hour. Traffic is not fundamentally bad at adjectives outside of those times. Phoenix is also one of the easiest cities to navigate.
Phoenix is bigger.. and definately rent a vehicle. Phoenix is VERY spread out. Plus cabs are run down, expensive, and unreliable. Walking somewhere is pretty much out of the question also (besides the certainty that it is 100+ degrees outside). You can speak about when it is rush hour, but you can tell that surrounded by any city. I agree about the reality that Phoenix is on a grid, and it makes it really natural to learn the streets... untill you win out to Mesa/Tempe/ etc... where adjectives the streets are named, a bit than one direction being numbered... but they are still on the grid, a short time ago not as easy to capture around. I know some people above me enjoy said traffic is worse than Southern Cali, but not from what I've seen. Southern Cali is MUCH MUCH worse!
The traffic was discouraging when I drove through 12/05 but the SMOG was unreal. And I lived within LA in the 60's and know smog. Couldn't procure out of there efficient enough.

The traffic is pretty fruitless in Phoenix but the obedient thing is the public transit system have really improved and can seize you around most of it. Driving is just a discomfort there while the bus and soon to friendly light guiderail system are a good appeal and have lots of rapid, frequent routes throughout the region. Avoid cabs, none of the drivers speak English and the rates are sky high! Seriously, consider the bus!
I would rent a car. Phoenix is exceptionally spread out. It's like one giant grid and cabs will drain your pockets. I don't really compare it to plentiful other cities, esp. traffic wise. The traffic, contained by my opinion is not that doomed to failure. It can get bleak on some parts of the 101, I-17, I-10, the 202 and a couple of other spots, but not that bad altogehter. Unless you will individual be in one nouns, then perchance would be okay. ie: downtown phx or old town scottsdale.
Having lived surrounded by Chicago, and visited the 10 largest cities within the US, I will tell you Phoenix is not doomed to failure. We do have a well brought-up highway system, but the thing that impress me is the surface streets. Almost all throughfares are 4 lane wide, sometimes 6 lane wide. The signals are pretty economically timed, and left turn signals at most intersections. Two things to be aware of near streets. Phoenix left turn signals will simply active if at hand are 3 or more cars waiting. Scottsdale's left turn signals are "lagging"--meaning the come on AFTER the largest green. My advice, rent a saloon. However, Phoenix Airport has one of the country's HIGHEST rental saloon tax. If you can rent it "bad airport" you will save some money.
