If you want to live surrounded by the desert, be away from people, adjectives alone except the town folks, no shopping malls, hot/cold and windy later Ridgecrest is the place for you.
Ridgecrest is roughly a "military" town because of near by China Lake NAS. It's a nice, small town, and yes it does capture very hot within the summer, and cold in the winter. It's sorta adjectives by its self with the subsequent town of any size being Mojave, in the region of a 40 minute drive away. If you're into camping, you'll be much closer to the Sierra's and the Kern River areas.
It's really not that small anymore. No malls or anything like that
but some fully clad restaurants. The schools are OK, but approaching most cities they do have a drug problem, in principal meth.
It's not too far from the Kern river and lake Isabella, and newly two hours from L.A.
It's in the elevated desert,so winters can be very cold and blowy,
and of course the summers are HOT
