Well Lucy downtown and Hollywood are not biddable choices..Try West Hollywood. You will be in the center of the deed and Beverly Hills for the most part will be over your budget.Yeh, Santa Monica would be correct also...Gary's recommendation going on for downtown is only correct re. the cost part..hotels downtown are pretty cheap but for a origin...(and the Bonaventure downtown is one of downtown's best)...but you don't want to stay there, I don't mull over..See if you can get a super carton deal discount at the Mondrian or the Roosevelt (but they may be too far over budget)...but here are a ton of other places..
You should stay in Downtown LA

Downtown LA will be your best bet if you are willing to spend 200USD per dark. Western Bonaventure is located in the heart of DownTown LA. It is close to the 101 freeway which lead to Hollywood, you also head west and travel to West LA, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Santa Monica.
I would stay around the Disneyland ara for a couple of days and after stay around the Santa Monica Area.
I own to disagree with the downtown guidance. I used to live downtown to be close to the office. There is nought to do downtown at night. It's a fine location if you plan on spending adjectives of your time going somewhere else, but if you want to spend some time getting to know the neighborhood you are staying in I would recommend Hollywood (trashy, but fun), West Hollywood or Westwood. Silverlake is also a fun neighborhood. So is North Hollywood and the Studio City nouns.

Basically I would stay anywhere other than downtown. It is not at adjectives like downtown surrounded by other cities. You'll have trouble-free freeway access virtually everywhere in LA so there's no idea to limit yourself.
