Yes, it is relatively cheap. City living is the best, you can find really great houses and apts. for a great deal less than the county. Food, taxes, gasoline etc are also affordable. Most Midwest cities are going be more affordable than on the coasts.
I enjoy lived in the city of St. Louis for abundant years and love it.
The Projects (just kidding). St Ann (the county) St John, Breckenridge Hills, and Florissant are duly cheap.

Yes it is a cheap city in which to live but it is also one of the most insecure in the USA. In 2006 it topped the US rankings for most crime per-capita and be second worst in 2007. The population have long been within decline though major pains have be made in recent years to revitalise the aged centre. It have some great sports teams but a unacceptable climate. In summer it is classed as 'humid subtropical' (for which read, a sauna in the 90's and it can budge well over 110'F) but surrounded by the winter it can get Artic blasts from Canada and be in motion as far down as 60 (sixty) degrees of frost (-23'F). It have also a history of some of the most lethal tornadoes contained by the American records. Having said adjectives that, many empire love it - which can also be said of Glasgow!

wow those answers above were horrible. yes it is technically cheap, below average price nationwide. it is exceptionally similar to the prices in the tentative mexico area. the opportunity growth is very suitable right now, especially surrounded by the medical and technology fields. near is lots of things to do, even a bunch of free things, like grant's arable farm or the zoo (gotta pay to park $8). inside 5 hours drive of chicago, indy, kc, memphis
It depends. Downtown, Frontenac, Town and Country, Chesterfield and Ladue are very pricy, but South County, St. Charles, Florrisant, and East St. Louis aren't.
Gas is $2.69. BTW I've lived in St. Louis county since I be born and have no function to ever leave this region.
I wonder where on earth some of these answers come from? St. Louis' crime stats are skewed because St. Louis the city is small, while St. Louis actually includes copious suburban towns and a big hunk of southern Illinois.
I've lived in St. Louis most of my enthusiasm, except for the time during which I lived in NYC. I'll pinch STL, thank you very much. You can go and get a 2 bedroom apartment in a neighborhood where on earth you'll feel undisruptive for about $800. There are lots of environment priced houses in the city and county, but some of the city places are going for deeply high prices. I can't envisage why, except they're pretty big. But they're also old and run down, want all kind of updating and the neighborhoods can be kind of terrifying sometimes. But there are various good areas to live. Soulard is a nice nouns, with frail row houses and Victorian townhouses. St. Louis Hills is a very nice nouns, but a little pricy. Almost any south side suburb is a nice place to live. The city school have some problems, so unless you don't hold kids or plan to send them to parochial school anyone, you probably want to stay out of the city.
There are lots of cultural activities here. Most of Forest Park is free, although you do compensate to park. $8 or $10 to take your home to a world class zoo is not a lot to settle. The food there is pricey, and typical public-kid-place fare. But right outside the park near are lots of places to eat near or without kids.
There's like mad of theatre too. Several local companies, the road shows brought into the Fox Theatre, and the Muny (summer simply, seats 11,000 people) adjectives offer upright productions for the most part.
I love St. Louis. I'm glad to be vertebrae here.
if you go farther out to the suburbs...its for a time more but its worth what you pay..move about west to like st. charles county.o' fallon, mo be rated similar to 62 or something in the best places to live contained by 2006.they also have better college districts and a better enviroment...its also not that far from the city
What daeve930 had to utter was pretty accurate. I lived surrounded by STL for 26 years, and I can't wait to move subsidise! There is alot to do there, lot's of resaraunts, endeavours, and the city and surrounding towns are very inherited oriented and risk-free. The status of STL being the most insecure city was done by an independant firm, and they really don't know what they be talking more or less.
There are bad areas, unsurprisingly, but that remains true with every main cities.
It is a HUGE sports town, and eveyone has a great sense of comraderie more or less it.
I used to live in South City (an nouns of the city) and I paid 450 for a 800 sqare foot one bedroom apartment. The nouns is safe, close to most of the highway, and it only take a max of 15-20 minutes to commute anywhere within the region. Not ONCE when I lived within for the 5 years I was in that did I feel that I be in an unsafe nouns.
There are several "cultural" township areas within the city as very well. The Hill, for instance is the "Little Italy", Dogtown= Irish neighborhood, Bevo Mill is the "scrubby dutcch" area, and so on and so forth.
Cost of living sage, the utilities are reasonable, as are the local cable and phone companies. Gas is still at around 2.50 second I heard/checked, and the property value other increases.

its a very shocking city and is also very boaring within is nothing to do and the weather really sucks i would not move in that!
I wouldnt say cheap but its not as expensive as living on any coast. St. Louis has massively reasonably priced housing and lots things that are free to do and see in the city. The repay scales are pretty average and the taxes are not out of sight. While its not as exciting as LA, NY city or Chicago at hand are plenty of things to do in St. Louis expecially contained by the urban areas but not in the suburban counties surrounding it. Most individuals are surprised with the sophistication and the opportunity in the city.
