Why is Texas call the "lone star state?

Answers:
Because it was once it's own independant country. It be ruled by its own people, not by Mexico or the US. It is the solitary state that use to be its own country.
i think it's simply because there is simply one star on their flag. was this an visible lame answer or what?
Because their is solitary one star on our flag.
kittysmle you are wrong about Texas person the only state that used to be an independent country. Texas is one of single four independent states to enter the US federation. Vermont acted as an independent nation for 14 years before joining the United States surrounded by 1791. California and Hawaii were also independent up to that time being annexed by the United States.
i used to have a bumper sticker that said "I'm from Texas.. what country are you from?"
it's in the flag and it's because Texas used to be a Republic independent from the US, Mexico, Spain and everybody.
Later they granted to join the Union which be the trigger for the Mexican-American War.
Cause during the American-Mexican war, they fought on their own lacking any help from the American army, even though the USA looked-for the land as thier own. So the star on the flag represents, they lonly struggle to become bit of the US. You know "remember the Alamo"
Bkuz of the One Lone Star on their state flag.
