You didn't say where on earth you are coming from. Go to www.hopstop.com for point-to-point subway directions (if you're coming from out of town, metro-north and other systems' directions are also available)
the 23rd Street / Broadway station of the BMT N,R,W trains is the usual and closest stop for the Flatiron / Madison Square area. Broadway and Fifth Avenue also intersect at 23rd Street, so seeing that 129 Fifth is between 19th and 20th Streets, only walk down Fifth almost 4 blocks. just manufacture sure that you get on a local train that will stop at 23rd Street, which will almost other be the trains on the outer tracks. (the Q train instead runs on the inner express tracks and will skip 23rd Street.)
walking from Union Square is also an option, especially if you are coming from downtown or Brooklyn and would own to change trains at Union Square anyway. in that are even more trains that stop a little farther away if you needed to walk a bit longer...
You can bear the "N", "Q", "R", "W", "L", "4", "5" or "6" to 14th Street (Union Square) Walk up Broadway and then dangle a left on W. 19th to catch to 5th Avenue
Get a cab outside of Train Station..they're waiting for you on 42nd st side.
Not that expensive and nifty!
