Traveling to New York City near children?

Taking two girls, age 11 and 8 to see Radio City Christmas Show. Won't have a ton of time. Want to purloin them to FAO Schwartz, Toys R Us and Disney. Want to take them to a fun and whimsical place to devour where they will be awed. Also, what would be the best kid friendly museum to do? I deduce they would enjoy that more than the zoo. Any thinking would be appreciated. Thanks!

At their ages..I would budge to the Wax museum. They are old ample to really enjoy it as economically as any other museum.
Mars 2112 - if still open, is pretty organized, Space themed restaurant, right off time square.

Natural Museum of History is pretty cool if they are into dinosaurs and seafaring animals, check the website for current exhibitions.

Bronx zoo this time of year is not that spectacular, majority of animals are inside, where you will not know how to see them.

Time Square alone is a great place to walk around, merely be careful it is crowded adjectives the time.

Serendipity is a great little spot for ice cream and sweets.
Horse buggy ride around medium park is pretty neat, reagardless what age you are.

Have fun!
A fun place to eat for kids is Mars 2112. I estimate its on 50th and Broadway or so. You can take a "ride" into the restaraunt (you sit surrounded by a seat that moves along near the screen surrounded by front of you) and the servers are fun and there are population dressed as Martians that walk around. The atmosphere is pretty crazy too. It's almost resembling you are in a grotto, but it's very big. There are screen with Mars word reports and they have a video arcade.

As far as a museum, I would utter the Museum of Natural History is the best for kids. They have a ton of exhibits and it seem much more interactive than the others. As a kid I always insufferable just looking at painting. But at the Museum of Natural History you can see animals, dinosaurs, different types of rocks and gems, artifacts from different cultures and a ton of other stuff. Look it up to see what "special" exhibts they will have when you are here.

Of course these are simply two suggestions out of a million, but I have probably it would be a blast for the kids.
The American Girl Doll Store has a great kid friendly/upscale restaurant. It is my girls personal favorite. The museum of Natural History is particularly cool, especially if they have see Night at the Museum. Have fun.
