Visit the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History - it is awesome. Get a tourist booklet when you return with to Washington and decide from that what you want to see. There are tons things to see and do.
The Smithsonian National Zoo, the Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials. The National Cathedral if you're into cathedrals. The Library of Congress is pretty fascinating. National Geographic always have some cool exhibits.
DC is a very walkable city. Americans who are used to driving everywhere procure tuckered out pretty fast, but you'll be fine!
