It is a very nice rural spot. Since Katrina, masses New Orleanians are moving further and further north (Picayune is about a 70 minute drive).
You will still requirement to drive for major shopping, etc.
i live surrounded by Ms. but don't know where Picayune is.

where on earth is it??
It's a nice little town but kinda rural. There's a Walmart, Home Depot and a dinky movie theatre and tons mom and pop places to eat. Major stuff (indoor mall) you will want to make a drive put a bet on to Slidell, Louisiana, go out to the coast or drive up to Hattiesburg.

It's the rural south so don't expect hip and taking place action. If you call for to go more city but be close to Picayune, you may want to consider Slidell, LA. It's with the sole purpose about a 15 minute drive.
yerp
