Good hotel to stay at contained by Waikiki i.e. cheap and close to the shoreline?

For cheap, close to the beach and "get the job done" I other stay at the Ocean Resort. You won't be disappointed and you will have extra spending money within your pocket for all the other cool stuff on the island. Try Ohana.com or the Waikiki Sand Villa it is about 2 blocks from the seaside (5 mins walk)
All hotels within Waikiki are close to the beach..but as far as cheap and close to the seaside, it depends on what your definition of cheap is.
Cheap in Waikiki is around $100 and you'll find that merely in places that are great rooms to put your guide down in but short on any other frills. Check out the Outrigger hotel splash. They have some great budget hotels that aren't too impossible and are a block or two away from the beach.
