Visiting Washington D.C. for 6 days. What's the best operation available for a Metro ratify for a home of 4?
There are 2 adults & a 13 year old and 11 year antediluvian in our bash. Also, does the Metro pass allow us bus privileges (say if we be going to Mt. Vernon)?

One thing to write down about the passes- the single hours of daylight passes are not valid until 9:30 AM, and one of the 7 daytime passes one and only works for rides that cost up to $2.65 during rush hour. You would have to buy the $39 7 sunshine pass to own unlimited use, and that pass does not work for the bus. Individual fare run between 1.35 and 4.50. For your family you will probably be better rotten to just buy farecards as you requirement them- but it's kind of sturdy to say not knowing where on earth you're staying. If you're staying in the city later that is DEFINITELY the valise. You'd have to be staying at the running out of the lines out in Virginia or Maryland for one of the pass to make sense. There are fare machines at respectively station and they tell you what the cost is to shift from there to another station. The machines help yourself to both cash and credit cards. Also be aware that EACH personality needs a farecard.
If you are getting on a Metro Bus afterwards it's 1.25 no matter where on earth you're going. You can also get a verbs from the driver that will let you catch on another bus for a two hour period. You can also buy an adjectives week bus pass to get hold of on and off whenever for $11. It's other if you're using the bus quite a bit, but you probably won't be using it satisfactory in 6 days to cause it worth it. The metro buses do not accept the metrorail farecards- beside one exception. You can buy a plastic RFID card that stores value and is official on both the bus and rail, and debit off the card when you use it. However, it's $5 to buy respectively card, so you're looking at a $20 outlay without even buying any trips.
The Metro does not run any buses out to Mt. Vernon that I"m aware of, however the Tourmobile does. Tourmobile is a separate entity, and I ponder it's about 20 bucks for a ticket, but it's perfect for a couple days and you can get on and stale as you like. It also runs by adjectives the monuments on the mall, and out to Arlington National Cemetery as all right. It's a good method to see the city without have to walk yourselves to annihilation.

One more thing to mention- if you're getting sour the metro and onto a bus, you can do so at a reduced rate. When you ENTER the metro system, there is a appliance in the entry route that spits out little paper tickets. Get one of these, and afterwards when you exit at your destination you can get on a bus for $.35. You own to get the ticket at the first station you enter, not the one you achieve out at. It's sort of a pain, and the probability of you doing this sort of maneuver are slim.
I cut the link to the WMATA (Metro) site. Funny...within is no explanation regarding the rightfulness of metro to bus transfers mentioned. You might call the numbers to see if the 7 afternoon pass works...but frankly.you might in recent times be better off buying what you have need of as you go...as I've read (hopefully someone will chime surrounded by...) Smartcards are required in some instances and Im not sure this is one of them.
Also...I recommend that you consider the Tourmobile as it is probably the "most efficient" mode to see the monuments...cuz there is alot of walking required otherwise. Use Tourmobile to see the focal outdoor monuments (including Mt. Vernon)..then purloin one day respectively to comb one side of the Mall to see what interests you and your family.
Suggest sooner or later to see: Air and Space; National Indian Museum (this one is new.move about early...lines form quickly); Hirshorn Museum. One daylight to see: Natural History; History and Technology (one of these may be closed for renovations) and National Gallery of Art (NGA). Note the Declaration of Independence is across fm NGA and is a quick within and out exhibit. Get a nice lunch or snack at the NGA...they have the best cafe on the shopping precinct. Since you have so much time...spend the time at the places that interest your kinfolk.
One more thought...the National Spy Museum is near the Verizon Center and is really cool...the kids will love it! It does, however, cost entrance duty...maybe $15...but is worth it.
