Crime rates surrounded by New York (around the Rockefeller Center)?
My parents won't let me travel to New York alone since it have a high crime rate over here. I want to know if there own been any crimes involved around the Rockefeller Center? If within is, then how big is the crime or how often does it come up? Are there deeply of bums and homeless around the Rockefeller Center? So is it safe me for to hike around the Rockefeller Center (to see the Plaza and Christmas tree) by myself if I travel alone?

I don't know how ripened you are but NYC actually have a pretty low crime rate now...especially around the tree & 5th ave. I would mind of pickpockets, hold your bag close to you and look resembling you know where you're going. Don't wear a camera around your collar.

The only "crime" I see contained by Rockefeller Center is how high the prices are at the stores here! (well..it IS 5th Avenue!) :)
But seriously, Rockefeller Center is TOTALLY safe. Aside from the cops watching patrol, Rockefeller Center have its own "force" making sure things are safe since during this time of year, the tree and skating rink is one of the BIG tourist spots. But still, this is New York City so you still own to be "on guard" and know your surroundings.
BTW, aside from checking out the tree and plaza, you may want to check out "Top Of The Rock"...the 65th floor observation deck.

Rockefeller Center is one of the nicest safest places in this city. I allowed my daughter to dance there (with her girlfriend) when she be 14.
There is one problem it is crowded, but well worth it.
- Also want a hot chocolate. on the street sides above the skating rink near are elevators (in glass cylinders) to the lower smooth. Get a hot drink at starbucks and grab a form (lots of free seating) and watch the skaters. It may be crammed above, but there is other a seat below.
New York City has much smaller quantity crime than it used to, it's now truly fairly low for a colossal city, and the nice areas of Manhattan are really not bad at adjectives. So be on your guard, but you probably have zilch to worry roughly.
Used to work for Rock Ctr..the two things you need to be careful of of is #1..if a astranger comes up to you and says in attendance is something "all over the pay for of your coact/jacket etc, and begins to attempt to wipe it past its sell-by date..be VERY careful. Secondly, beside the crowds be wary of population bumping into you and women always wear your backpack over your shoulder with the flap facing IN. Guys know where on earth your money/wallet is at all times!
Over the years nearby were minimal instacnes however, similar to anywhere else in NYC, if you hold on to your wits about you you will enjoy a great time.
