"St. Charles Streetcar Line Update
The Central Business District loop of the St. Charles streetcar dash (from Carondelet and Canal Streets to Lee Circle) resumed operation on December 19, 2006, 7 days a week, from 9 am to 6 pm. The 1920s St. Charles Perley Thomas streetcars are also running on both the Canal Street line and the Riverfront rank. Because all 24 candy-apple red Canal Street streetcars and six of the seven Riverfront streetcars be flooded after Hurricane Katrina, the historic green cars, which all survived, are running on both of these lines. To wallow in the attractions on St. Charles Avenue and Carrollton Avenue, take the RTA St. Charles bus, which operate on the same route that the St. Charles streetcars did up to that time Katrina. For route and schedule information, access the Routes part on this Web site. The overhead electrical system was heavily dog-eared by Hurricane Katrina. Although work has begin on replacing the poles, pole foundations, and the overhead electrical system on the St. Charles Line, the complete project will not be finished until spring 2008. RTA expects to have an extension to the service to St. Charles and Napoleon operating by Fall 2007. "
Yes, they will, and within New Orleans they are called STREETCARS, NOT trolleys. The Saint Charles streetcar is running on Canal Street and the riverfront. The RTA still have a lot of work to do on repairing the Saint Charles Avenue streetcar power lines due to the flooding from Katrina. The St. Charles Avenue route is programmed to be up and running again in untimely 2008.
