To fruitless you missed the Rose Festival. If your friend has a vehicle ,I suggest Multmamouth Falls. It is the 2 largest waterfall contained by the US.
The Grotto should be on your document. Also OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) which is near the Zoo. Also Saturday Market on the river.

You could take a sightseeing cruise on the Willamette River, or tramp around on the waterfront -- there are miles of parks and sidewalks on both sides. The Classical Chinese Garden is a restful oasis downtown. There is other an interesting exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. You can spend all time exploring Washington Park, where the zoo, the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, and other things are. There are lots of walking path and hiking trails in Washington Park, which is one of the biggest urban parks contained by the US.

There are always interesting things going on within Portland...just pick up a copy of the Sunday Oregonian (the Portland broadsheet.)
