In what Portland, OR neighborhood should I live beside my young-looking relatives if I want to give somebody a lift MAX to work downtown?

I would recommend Woodstock neighborhood for a more affordable area than Laurelhurst. While at hand is no max line at hand is the bus line. Good Luck to you.

Gresham, which is on the east side, is the best. The west side have too much crime and gang activity.
Gresham, Gateway, Beaverton, Hilsboro, are not Portland. Well..Gateway is, but unless you like living among strip malls...the neighborhood of Rose City is nice and prices for homes are affordable. It's around 60th and Halsey. There is a MAX station at 60th and again at 82nd...both at or give or take a few Halsey. The area south of Sandy Blvd to the east of the Hollywood MAX station is also a nice neighborhood. If you look at a Portland MAX map, the neighborhoods starting former (east) of the Lloyd Center stops until 82nd ave are nice, close in Portland neighborhoods. (MAX runs parallel to Hwy 84 at smallest until 82nd) Laurelhurst is beautiful and really nice, but particularly expensive and not really walkable to MAX. Also, bikes are allowed on MAX and on the front of busses, so you can always bike to a MAX station.
Gateway area is nice and close to stations. Of course the MAX go out to Gresham too.
The MAX runs all the method from Gresham to Hillsboro, so you have closely of choices. I'd recommend the west side for a young household -- Hillsboro, Beaverton area.
If you want to have a nontoxic enviroment for your family the pearl district is the best bet.
extra tip; the homeless family downtown can get aggresive if they regard your holding out on money, dont ever! tell anyone down within you have money unless it looks resembling they genuinly need relief. good luck.
I'd try Beaverton or Hillsboro on the west side both of which enjoy great MAX and Tri-Met bus service.
Laurelhurst is in the vicinity the Hollywood MAX Station (used to live in Laurelhurst myself) and is probably the nicest neighborhood right along the queue in Portland proper. Depending how far from downtown you want to want out home on the return commute, here are many opportunity out toward Beaverton and Orenco. Orenco Station in one is transit-oriented development and have won several awards for its design and mix of single- and multi-family housing and commerical spaces.
I JUST moved from portland. I enjoy 3 younger siblings youngest was 6 when we moved for my father buisness. We moved from a GREAT neghborhood named LAURELHURST. There is tons parks, great for children. Yet not stranded in a kids place. We lived surrounded by the middle of the neighborhood, So maybe 2 blocks away be a pizza shop, market, starbucks, florest, elderly home and a teryakie resturant.
roughly 4 blocks south was laurelhurst park, a huge park, dog nouns, playground area, and a huge lake beside trees to climb and grass 4 running.
The schools are wonderful. Laurelhurst elementry college was 4 clocks from my house north. And only just 2 or 3 blocks north of that was a max station. Fernwood middle academy was a nice conservatory, not walking distance. though i went to Davinci arts middle university, about 10 blocks. it is for both performing arts and visual.One word summing it up be perfect. Grant highschool is a wonderful highschool, somewhat farther so not walking distance but it is close, and also has public pool for the summers.
The bus station be at 1-3 blocks away in every direction. There is individual 2 busy streets that i know of. Burnside and Glisan.but other than that i be able to run around across the streets beside my brothers anywhere.the neighbor hood has SO plentiful children. Where i lived there where on earth kids from 2 to 16. So i had friends growing up subsequent door as well as babysitters also. The entire place is highly welcoming. I hope you look it up.
gresham/fairview nouns. It is still smaller, yet close to everything. Max runs from Gresham, lots of parking, take about 30 minutes to ride downtown on a mundane day. PLUS, the school in Gresham are better than Portland, and classes are still smaller. I live within the gorge nouns, but shop and play in Gresham nouns alot. If you can find something close to Mt. Hood Community College, prices are reasonable still and the neighborhoods are mostly cul-de-sacs.
