Anywhere around Hollywood. But there are loads of discouraging areas.
I drove through an area contained by Riverside county years ago and my cousin said...don't go nearby.
If the local population see you behind the helm they will take a pot shot at you. He be was deep serious.
Do not wear blue and do not wear red clothes if you go anywhere in close proximity south central los angeles, because these are the gang coulors of the bloods(red or burgandy) and crips(blue) and you could be mistaken for a gang associate. Each area have different gangs and even some gang fight respectively other over turf even if they are bloods or crips themselves.
If you stay North of the 10 freeway and West of the 110 freeway, you'll be fine.
Also, you're safe anywhere North or South of the 10 freeway anywhere to the West of the 405 freeway.
All areas to the West of the 405 resembling Manhattan Beach, Venice, Santa Monica, etc., are very safe and sound and very cool. Make sure you call round the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica on a Friday or Saturday darkness.
There are some very hip areas to the North of the downtown nouns called Los Feliz and Silverlake that are secure and worth checking out. Also, Glendale which is to the North of Los Feliz is kind of cool if a little sterile.
Hollywood is tremendously grungy and filled near tourists and crackheads. Avoid.
I would tend to avoid neighborhoods where the businesses have those metal gates to cover over the total storefront at night, though this is not a unyielding and fast rule. If more enjoy them than not, then it is a biddable clue that the neighborhood is pretty rough. Also, look at how much greenery is in the neighborhood, and how verbs the exteriors of the buildings are. Both are good indications roughly how the locals feel around their own neighborhoods; if they don't care something like them, you shouldn't intrude...
South Central.
Compton.
most of central la is a no zone as is south centralized, Compton and so is most of the city at night. travel on line and do a scour la city police reports/arrest,then draw from a map have fun be nontoxic.
It's one of the few ,"1st world", cities to avoid.
Stay out of the total city! East LA, Compton, & Watts are particularly desperate, but avoid the entire city (and hopefully county) if you can. Santa Barbra's not a horrible distance from LA, and is MUCH nicer!
Some areas are better, some worse. But I am really hesitant to smear one pernickety area, because these things transform constantly. If you are of a certain ethnicity, you might do fine contained by an area that would be problematic for someone else.
Generally, the nouns known and South Central have higher crime, and nearby are other high crime pockets. You can consult crime map put out by the Los Angeles Police Department, which I think I would do if I be contemplating moving here. I would suggest before committing to a lease that you rent on a month-to-month justification for a while so you can evaluate your area. Ask citizens at your job, and drive around different areas.
Try to live in the neighbourhood your work, as transportation is scanty and commute times are long (and gas so costly). It's expensive, crowded, and repeatedly pretentious to live on the West Side or at the beach, so unless you hold a lot of money, look inland within areas such as downtown, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, or Alhambra, I suggest. There are very nice LA City neighborhoods, too, and some of them a bit artsy, such as Los Feliz, Echo Park and Silverlake, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, Larchmont, Beachwood Canyon, and all through the Hollywood Hills.
Please remember that Los Angeles is HUGE, and although here is crime, and, yes, gangs, it is close to any large city, and also wonderful.
South central and canton are places to avoid. but you find hoodlums everywhere in LA. so i read out stick to the crowds.plus if you see the old sl*g vikki beckham pass her a punch in the mouth and detail her to stop powting looking sorry for herself.
