Hitch-hike to Zion or Bryce Canyon?
I am planning a very low budget hiking trip. I be thinking of visiting Zion and/or Bryce Canyon national park. I can't afford to drive or fly so I be going to take the Greyhound bus to the nearest town (30 miles away or so) and hitch trail the rest of the way. Do you reason anyone will pick me up? Will the cops bother me? I am a large but not really scary looking young at heart guy from Minnesota, and would plan on dressing respectably for this part of the trip.
In California it seem like yuppies would pick up some pretty grubby dreadlock/hippie types, so I have no trouble there...but it really depends on the state.

I wouldn't pick up a hitchhiker, but frequent europeans take within that area surrounded by the summer. They may have different attitudes. It get pretty crowded. There used to be a bus from St. George to Zion, maybe you can google and see if it still runs at hand.
This is NOT California. In Nevada, people are not similar to people anywhere else. This is the blustery west, we shoot first ask questions latter, I'm talking just about the cops. I don't think it would be risk-free to hitch hike. Some one could exterminate and your body might never be found out here in the desert.
Yea, I infer you'll get picked up. Folks from Utah are really awesome and outdoorsy, too. And when you're going to a national park, you're going to be passed by empire who are like-minded and sympathetic to hitchhikers. At least, more so than if you be trying to get a ride to the Mall of America. Try going to a gas station within the town by the Greyhound stop and asking people you remind you of yourself if they're going to the park and if you can bum a ride. I've other had more luck that method.
I own been here and it is well worth the trek. You should not hold any problem but you should keep within mind the time of year. You might also try craigslist to see if someone else is traveling in and out of the nouns. It is truly spectacular. Good luck and enjoy. Dont forget to see Lake Powell too.
I enjoy no idea how powerfully hitching will work, but Bryce was fabulous, and Zion be a waste of time.
