Where can I nick some German course within Austin?
so I am moving to Austin this year. I ll be studying at UT, and I dont know that much from the city. This year I was living surrounded by France, and I had a German girlfriend while I be there.
Is not that I am study German for her, but still she kinda got me interested within German culture. So now I am really interested within learning German.
But I hold no idea where on earth to start looking in Austin.

You are studying at UT. Take the German classes at UT. They own a foreign language department and I am sure you are required to enjoy a minimum of 2 years. This will surely help out. I took several Goethe Institute workshops at UT. Viel Glueck. Und wirklich, Austin ist im Hill Country. Da sind echt Deutsch uberall; Fredricksburg, New Braunfels, Buda, Kerrville, Boerne. Alle sind Deutsche kleine staedtchen.
I would suggest, that if you're really interested within learning German, that I don`t know you try one of 2 things:
1. See if Austin has a Berlitz native tongue center nearby, contact them and find out something like lessons
or
2. Obtain Rosetta Stone CD's for the German oral communication and teach yourself using your computer.

Fall 2007 Adult German Classes
We tender two tracks of German language classes – Structural and Conversational. Classes are 90 - 120 minutes long and get together once a week for 12 weeks. The classes are taught at the German-Texan Heritage Society’s headquarters contained by the historic German Free School at 507 East 10th Street in downtown Austin. The cost is $65 for GTHS member and $75 for non-members. Class size is limited, so please register soon. The registration deadline is August 17th. Conversational Classes
Beginning Conversational German
Teacher: Christa Rábago
Tuesdays - 6:45 to 8:15pm; August 28 – November 20
This class concentrates on commonly used words and phrases and their correct pronunciation, using a conversational approach to teaching. No textbook is used, but handouts will be made available. This class is intended for those who know no German or who want to brush up on the basics.
Intermediate Conversational German
Teacher: Hannelore Damon
Wednesdays - 7:00 to 8:30pm; August 29 – November 21
This course is designed to relieve you strengthen and expand your conversational skills. Specifically, you will improve listen comprehension skills and speaking skills and expand your personal active vocabulary. The course will focus on adjectives areas of conversation like Essen, Freizeit, Einkaufen, Reisen, Kino, Telefon, etc. There is no textbook for this course, instead we will use text and listening actions provided by the instructor. Pre-requisite: one semester of German or equivalent.
Advanced Conversational German
Teacher: Petra Maroney
Thursdays - 7:00 to 8:30pm; August 30 – November 22
This course is for students who have a appropriate basic know-how of German. We will mainly discuss and take media events and other articles of nonspecific interest. Understanding German and avoiding direct translation errors is also discussed. The majority of the course will be in the German spoken communication. There will be very little sentence structure and written German. We will work on vocabulary words that have several different meaning. We will also role play in conversational German.
Structural Classes
German I
Teacher: James Damon
Wednesdays - 7:00 to 9:00pm; August 29 – November 21
This class emphasize vocabulary acquisition, simple conversation and the structure of the German dialect, utilizing traditional methods of instruction. It covers the first half of Taylor’s and Haas’s German: A Self Teaching Guide and is designed for origin students as well as those who already know some German. Each class crowd is divided into two parts, each one hour long. The first chunk covers half a chapter surrounded by the self-teaching guide while the second part, surrounded by support of the mission of GTHS (“Promoting awareness and preservation of the German heritage of Texas”), examines materials relating to German-Texan history and culture. The self-teaching guide is available from GTHS and costs $20.00.
German II
Teacher: Mimi Parris
Thursdays - 7:00 to 8:30pm; August 30 – November 22
This class is a continuation of the German I class and uses the second half of Taylor’s and Haas’s German: A Self Teaching Guide. It too emphasize structure, vocabulary acquisition and conversation and is designed for those who enjoy completed German I or already know some German. Games and speaking activities will be used to enhance instruction. The book is available at GTHS and costs $20.00.
Accelerated German
Teacher: James Damon
Mondays - 7:00 to 9:00pm; August 27 - November 19
This class covers the entire German: A Self-Teaching Guide contained by 12 meetings. It is intended for students who will to expose themselves to as much German as possible in a little. Students often nick this course in conjunction near one of the conversation courses. As in Structural German I, respectively class meeting is divided into a structural and a cultural constituent. Students taking this class should be highly motivated and competent to devote at least a partly hour each morning to working exercises in the self-teaching guide, which is available at GTHS for $20.00
Both UT and ACC own great continuing education courses surrounded by German. I would try that. Or check out the backpage of the Chronicle. There are sources there too!
