Universal Studios is fun- as is Disneyland (of course), and Knott's Berry Farm, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. If you don't want to spend as much money- Disney and Universal have outdoor shopping dining areas (Downtown Disney and Universal CityWalk) that you don't enjoy to buy a ticket for. This kind of nouns is also in Santa Monica if you want to stop by a beach/boardwalk and a shoping/dining called 3rd St. Promenade.
If you approaching Museums- I'd check out the Getty (near UCLA)

a fun trip is to take a boat over to Catalina Island for the day- they hand down very commonly from San Pedro (Port of L.A.) and Long Beach- catalina has a bunch of fun stuff, similar to paddle boats, bike rentals, boat trips, buffalo preserve, casino, snorkeling...

Stay at the Renaissance surrounded by Hollywood.
It's right in the middle of the Hollywood tourist stuff.
LA is a fast-paced city... depending on when you are going, you should manifestly take surrounded by a visit or two to some nouns stages, maybe a call in to a taping of THE TONIGHT SHOW or I don`t know even the PRICE IS RIGHT or whatever show you can seize tickets for...a LOT of the tickets are FREE by the way. Ok consequently Universal Studios Hollywood and a short trek down the road to Anaheim for Disneyworld ...oh and don't forget the BEACH----Hermosa Beach is Beautiful, a Ride up the Canyon roads and up Malibu would be a beautiful ride AND you could see distinction homes. We were in that in 94 for a tournament my son be competing in but we get to see quite a lot---OH also in attendance is the Griffith Observatory high on the hill just outside LA where on earth you can go contained by and see WONDERFUL things in the sky CLOSE UP through giagantic telescopes...
Hollywood
Huntington Garden,Grifftith Observatory, Farmers Market, Pinks, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater,Beverly Hills Hotel, santa Monica 3rd Street. Then look within a tour book and pick out the things you like.
Los Angeles Area:
Hollywood - stir see the Star Walk of Fame along Hollywood Blvd, and the famous Mann Chinese Theather is also at hand. You can also walk aroun Hollywood & Highland, where on earth there's shops and foods, plus by starbucks (next to California Pizza Kitchen) you'll be able to see a quick look of the "Hollywood" sign!
Universal Studio Hollywood - largest entertainment in LA! if you don't hold time to go to the themepark (it would call for one full day) then basically got to the Universal City Walk, it's nice going near at nightime. But if you do go to the focus park, make sure you move about on the Studio Tour, that's something you can't miss!
Farmers Market at the Grove in LA - (cross street: fairfax and 3rd) it's also an outdoor shopping center, and at the Farmers Market, you can essentially find any kind of food you want. There's japanase, chinese, mexican, french, american, middle-eastern, italian, brazilian, you entitle it :) Or you can always return with out a little bit, there's other the famous Pink's Hotdog. (cross street: La Brea and Melrose), the flash might be really long, but it's worth the wait :)
Getty Museum - the museum collects and exhibits classical sculpture and art, European painting, drawings, manuscripts, sculpture, patterned arts, and photographs. but it's really nice, and there's also a nice garden where you can relax near a beautiful setting and a nice scenery of Los Angeles.
Beverly Hills - the famous Rodeo Drive, where on earth you can go shopping, and sight-seeing!
Santa Monica - the Santa Monica Pier, have Pacific Park where in attendance are some carnival rides, and a very nice high-ferris-wheel, where on earth you can see the view of the the deep, and the cities from up top, there's also a small arcade. Along the pier, there are some local entertainment and a direct access to the beach. There's also the Santa Monica 3rd St Promenade, and i.e. an outdoor shopping center, with nice entertainment on the sides.
Clubs - at Hyde, Area, Les Deux, Parc, Priviledge, Mood, Teddy’s, Skybar, Roxy, Tryst, Whiskey (a-go-go), The Spyder Club, The Viper Room, House of Blues.
Staples Center - home of the Los Angeles Lakers, that's right on Downtown LA.
A little bit outside the L.A area, there's other..
Anaheim - is where Disneyland and Disney California Adventure is located, if you're nearby, make sure to call on Downtown Disney, for a walk. If you're going into the amusement park(s), I'd speak you go during the weekday within the middle of the week, it'll be less crowded, and a bigger kismet for you to get through the complete park.
Buena Park - Knott's Berry Farm, western style theme park beside pretty good roller coaster rides.
Long Beach - Aquarium of the Pacific, it's pretty nice and organized, there's also The Queen Mary, and go rather bit to the other side of Long Beach, there will be Naples Island, it's approaching a little publication of Italy, you can ride a Gondola there, which can be pretty romantic.
San Marino - call round the Huntington Library Park. It's a really really nice botanical garden, there's also art collections there. But the garden is nice, I love it here. And they have a massively big and nice Japanese garden. It can be very romantic in that too. Keep in mind that they close at 4:30.
