How to find an affordable place contained by San Francisco for 3 months?
besides a hotel or hostel what is the cheapest way to live within San Francisco?

I've had perfect luck on Craig's list but please be wary with who you business deal with.
Find a friend who already has a place. No such item as cheap in the City. Just a studio will cost you $1,500. And hotels will be difficult. The only cheap places will be drug infested slummy areas, and I would'nt suggest that to anyone.
As others enjoy said, try www.craigslist.org. This site has frequent listings of apartments and houses for rent. My sister got great places contained by Los Angeles, Seattle, and Eugene, Oregon through this site. She even found here current house in Philadelphia through it. You could other try a house swap, but only if you discern comfortable having someone else bear care of you house. I know I would love to live contained by Germany for 3 months! If only I lived surrounded by San Fran.
San Francisco is an extremely expensive city, and the word "affordable" might have a different definition nearby. But it is an amazingly beautiful place. You'll hold close access to other amazing California areas. Good luck, and don't trust everything you see on craigslist.
