We are looking for areas to live essential Renton, WA that would enjoy short commute times---around 30 minutes?
we currently live in No. Va and my husband commutes 1 1/2 hrs respectively way to work surrounded by DC! OUCH!
We are considering a move to the Seatle area--my husband would be working in Renton. Looking for a nice out of danger area next to good school for the kids and a decent commute for my husband.
Which areas would be a worthy start to look ?

30 minute commute to WHERE at what time of day? To articulate the local transportation infrastructure is lacking is to put too kind a face on it. There is no regional mass-transit system on the size that San Francisco, NY, or other far-thinking cities have. The freeways enjoy become overloaded past the point of ridiculous, and the bottlenecks are all-too numerous. This region, and Seattle surrounded by specific, missed the freaking buss 30- to 40 years ago, and can't seem to catch it together YET. Don't count on quick commutes. It may not slightly equal the beltway crawl here YET, but it is working on it.
There are parts of Renton that are fine to live in. The areas the guy above mentioned would provide a reverse commute - which would be a nice devolution. Also, Kent (towards covington) has some nice areas.
It really depends how much you can afford. A lot of the nice areas hold expensive housing, but there are more affordable areas as powerfully.

bellevue, issaquah or snohomish.
Newcastle, Bellevue, Issaquah. All are near Renton but won't transport the Renton address.
Live contained by Pierce County if Possible. (less crime, lower taxes, lower cost of living)
I would suggest Puyallup.
It is one of the safest areas around and have great school.
And it is about partially an hour from Renton.

Bellevue - Good bus transportation for Microsoft employees - I'm not sure which bus strip number or exact route -- but it runs along Eastgate Way at least.
Sorry, I made a mistake. Microsoft is contained by another town Redmond Washington. So my answer is not helpful.
I currently live in Renton. It is where on earth I was raise. I enjoy living here. But may I also suggest Maple Valley. It adjoining to Renton but has a smaller town country vibe. Cedar River runs through near. Its beautiful through adjectives seasons, remarkably Autumn. And its minutes away from major freeways head every direction.
I also live in Renton, and hold lived here most of my life. Stephen H's answer--while a bit cynical--is unhappily true; the entire greater Seattle area (which includes Renton and adjectives the surrounding areas) is being overcrowded to the point of anyone ridiculous. Public transportation has on the other hand to catch up, and even beside the public transportation we DO have, most relations still opt to drive alone to their jobs, even if it's simply a few miles away. The fact that where all these race are coming from has nonetheless to produce a single sensible, safe driver doesn't serve (hint: I'm not referring to VA... I mean another state a ways to the south of us that won't stop sending folks up here to live).
That said, Renton itself isn't too bad of a place to live. The neighboring towns/communities include Kent, Auburn, Tukwila, Issaquah, Burien, Federal Way, SeaTac, Covington, and more outlying places, approaching Samammish, Hobart, Black Diamond, and even Enumclaw. There are smaller communities nearby that aren't towns, such as Fairwood, which are relatively nice but for a bit expensive. The problem is, there's so much sprawl and uncontrolled development here in a minute because of the stampede of people moving within that not only have traffic worsened exponentially, but so have property prices, and taxes within King County. The overcrowding is so bad that it would steal you longer than thirty minutes to reach Renton from Enumclaw, Samammish, and even Black Diamond and Covington. I live and work contained by Renton; my job is typically a ten-minute drive across the valley to where on earth I live... and lately it's been taking 25-45 minutes to catch back home within the afternoon--to traverse a distance that normally would transport TEN MINUTES! That is just how unpromising it's gotten--and that isn't including any freeways, mind you. If it takes me smaller amount time to BIKE to and from work--and I've started doing it more often--that should tell you something is seriously wrong.
I don't aim to deter you from your planned move, not at all--Washington's easily the best state to live within, hands down. The problem is, more and more family are discovering this, and it's making it a bit less idyllic for the rest of us. Just be aware of the crowding, traffic, and over-Born within development surrounded by this area, so that you at least possible won't be too surprised.
