Fastest route to Los Angeles from the OC?

living around the beach areas (newport, laguna etc) what is the fastest passageway to get to LA on both weekends and weekdays near the least traffic and smallest amount of time? Is 5 north faster or 405?

Answers:
It depends on what part of L.A. you trying to carry to. If you're trying to get more toward the northeast element of Los Angeles take the 5, if you are trying to seize to the heart of Los Angeles take the 405
The 405 Fwy before 2:00 within the afternoon. Or the 5 FWY if you're going to downtown L.A. Here's a map for you - but whatever you do, hop on the freeway, between 11 and 12:00, after that, grab a coffee and linger until 8 P.m.

Metro Link Trains or Amtrak
If you are going to Central LA I would pocket the 405 to the 110. The 5 is THE WORST. If you are going to the beach, the 405 is gonna be your merely option really even though it sucks.
The 5 is better than the 405 99% of the time. There's a reason they send for it the 405: You go 4 o' 5 miles per hour. There are merely more congested areas on the 405, as well as it human being physically longer. Even if you need to progress to the west side, the 5 is faster because the 405 nearly comes to a stop from Torrance to Santa Monica.
Anytime after midnight to 5AM. But you still might run into Caltrans shutting down a few lane at night. That's the worst.
