I hold a few question on the subject of Manhattan, midtown nouns.?
I'll be there December 19th for just about 30 hours. I'd like to variety sure I fit in & don't achievement like a tourist.
Do population cross the roads only on the green bedside light or also on the red? Do people put your foot in between traffic close to on t.v. shows (or is it just the tv shows that show that)?
What is the best road for a woman to hold her purse so it's not snatched? I normally lately do over the shoulder, but am thinking I should hold it in front of me & stir to a smaller sized purse.
And how is traffic on a weekday around 2-3:30 p.m. in Midtown? I will necessitate to get from approx. 59th & 8th Avenue to Penn Station & I've read traffic doesn't really start up until 3:30 p.m. I'm of late trying to make sure I plan for little things.
I'm markedly aware of my surroundings, so will continue that portion, but just want to bring in sure I also fit in.

society cross the streets when and wherever they grain like, but promptly and constant traffic will keep most empire waiting at the red light until it turns green (the pedestrian "go" is presently "white"), so it's in the best interests of your sanctuary to cross only at streetcorners and near the light.

i would think over the shoulder, and held surrounded by front of you with your arm over it. you may find it easier and more safe and sound with shorter straps that would put together it more difficult for a purse snatcher to stick his arm through...

midday traffic is chunky enough but flows economically, so if you had to ride surrounded by a taxi or on a bus you'll procure somewhere. one random unreliable is any small construction site that may pop up to fix a pothole or work on an underground utility. then traffic will slow down to squeeze departed it. HOWEVER, since you will only be going from Columbus Circle to Penn Station, the utter best way is UNDERGROUND. nick the downtown A or C at 59th Street / Columbus Circle to Penn Station and you'll be there within 2-3 stops and in 5-10 minutes. this is also because a hackney carriage will have to step down 7th Avenue; 8th Avenue goes solely one way UPtown. your subsequent best option if you want to meander is straight down 8th Avenue to 33rd Street, which would take going on for 20-30 minutes.

YES. you hold a choice of routes and each one have interesting things to see along the way. in that will always be relations out. a good approach i think would be along Central Park South to 7th Avenue, and later down. there's always populace on CPS because of being along Central Park, and, by the time you return with to 7th, you'll already see the lights of Times Square in the distance. and adjectives along the way in that will be Carnegie Hall, restaurants, hotels and the occasional Bway show. and as someone else has already posted, 5th Avenue down to Rock Ctr and afterwards across to 7th is also a good track. there is adjectives kinds of greater end shopping contained by the 50's and Rock Ctr always have people around...

Do obey the "walk" signs within NYC, first of all you can get hold of a ticket for jaywalking, secondly of all, it is not protected to cross otherwise, the cars do not give track unless a crowd is crossing. If you have a shoulder purse, put it on your shoulder and cross it contained by front of you and hold with both hand.
You should be able to run to Penn Station in in the order of 1/2 hour at that time of day.
It's usually protected to walk around midtown within the evening, don't push it by walking too late, because the pedestrians will fine out. Just be aware and don't walk approaching a victim!

Traffic is bulky at most part of the year and beginning of the evening. All the Avenues are usually jammed so clear sure you have ample time to go to one place to another.
Yes it is completely safe to meander around Midtown. FAO Schwarz is located on 5th Avenue across from the old Plaza Hotel and at hand are many tourists at adjectives time as well as cabs and cars running adjectives over. It is a very busy nouns, but not as much as night. Manhattan is a place where on earth you will always see ethnic group on the streets, except within streets at residential neighborhoods.
If you happen to be contained by those streets just look around you to put together sure all is okay, but still it is really past the worst.
Time Square is even more crowded than 5th Avenue so you will be fine.
You keep wise saying you want to fit in, but I deem here is what you really need to engender sure:
1) If taking a cab sort sure they don't take the longest style to get to your destination, and don't be too friendly. If you are, they will know you are a tourist and will try to obtain more $$ from you. They are really difficult!
2) Make sure to always speak loud and clear of what you want and be spur-of-the-moment! New Yorkers are always contained by a rush and they don't have time to ask you again what you said or what you want. no leniency whatsoever.
3) Besides spending your vacation contained by places where solely tourists hang out such as Times Square and FAO, try to explore areas that not various tourists know about it (if that's what you are looking for). Some upright areas to hang out, to dine and to shop are:
Soho, West Village, Lower Fifth Avenue (between 23rd & 14th Street), Chelsea and Meat Pack District.

- People cross the road here regardless of lights and I have never ever see a cop issue a 'Jay walking ticket'. Yes, for once, believe the TV and Movies on this one. I have other felt that if in that was 'Olympic Car Dodging', a New Yorker would win.
- I would not verbs to much about getting your purse stolen, hold it in general as you would at home.
- Traffic in Midtown is other bad. From 59th street and eighth I would go underwater on the Downtown A or C train (At 59th and Columbus Circle) and take it to 34th street Penn Station. Much faster than a Cab.
- Please saunter down 5th avenue (from 59th to 46th st) from FAO Schwartz to Rockefeller Center, it is spectacular, but at this time of year, it is also very crowded. Then be in motion west for two blocks to B'Way.
Ok first sour: you can cross the streets as long as it is safe to cross. If the traffic is really cumbersome, you can go along beside the flow of people who are crossing but be alert also.
I never hear of purse snatching in the Manhattan nouns, all I know is that when you are within a deserted part or nouns with smaller amount people, you should see out for muggers. They can usually easily spot a tourist: a camera and looking up on skyscrapers is a unconscious give away.
The Manhattan nouns is always have problems with the traffic, traffic jam everywhere no matter what time it is.
And yes it is undisruptive to walk around surrounded by the evening/late evening because there are still A LOT of general public tourist or locals alike enjoying a dark out or a late stroll - lol - remember, it's the city that never sleeps. :D
